The Guild Offices of Ranjan

The town of Ranjan is a small one, situated a few miles south of Port Calin, and is the northernmost post of the Scavenger Lands before reaching Realm territory in that direction. As such, despite its otherwise humble nature, it serves as a common Guild office for those travelling the northwestern Scavenger Lands. Over three hundred years ago, when the city was newly-founded, the Guild oversaw the capping of the city's lakeside demesne, clearing ancient ruins and building a new and simple manse.

The manse is small, but elegant. Reaching glass bends the light, rippling it across the koi ponds that fill the inner courtyard. Within the surrounding offices, Guild envoys meet with traders and mercenaries, secure in the knowledge that supernaturals who wish to manipulate them will find it difficult to do so in secrecy. This is because the manse's glass resonates with Essence-use, filling the air with quiet chimes when Essence is locally spent.

The pond at the exact centre of the Manse bears, at its bottom, a large jade-carved oyster, within which rests the Manse's Hearthstone when not in use. Usually, however, Guild factors can find a use for it.

Game Mechanics

Manse Level 1
Drawbacks: None

Powers:

Eyeless Sight of Danaa'd (1 pt): Unlike usual Eyeless Sight, this version detects Essence expenditures. Whenever a character spends more motes of Essence than her permanent Essence rating within an action, the Manse recognizes it and reacts. Stealth effects that conceal the character must do so with the usual penalties for evading Manse detection. A character who hides successfully from the Manse does not trigger its warnings.

Magical Conveniences (1 pt): Whenever the Manse senses the expenditure of Essence, its glass windows and pillars begin to quietly chime, informing everyone nearby that Essence has been spent. The chimes are strongest directly next to the spender, and fade as they spread away.

The Manse's Hearthstone is a Jewel of the Clever Merchant (Oedanol's Codex, pg 95), the ownership of which is often contested by various Guild factors who can use it.
