Whirling Sun and Moon Style

This is a martial arts style based on battle yo-yos, called Whirling Disks hereafter. Stats for both mundane and Artifact Whirling Disks are soon to come.

There are not yet Essence or Martial Arts Minimums because the only character that has it is an Essence 5, Martial Arts 5 Solar, So I didn't feel the need to write them up (I'm lazy). If you have reccomendations, feel free to make them.

Background

Whirling Sun and Moon Style is often disregarded by martial artists and obsessed over by teenagers. The style is, above all else, flashy. This is NOT to say that it isn't powerful. It can easily hold its own against any other style, it simply gets marginalized by more "serious" martial artists due to the excessive attention to peppering the style with impressive tricks that martial artists of this style tend to exert. Most, if not all practitioners of this style have signature tricks they use when they have a moment free. Doing a trick impressively is just as important to a practitioner as getting a hit in.

Training

Training in this style is often highly sought after by young or self-important Exalts, usually Solars. The actual training begins with the crafting or commissioning of a custom whirling disk. Acquiring this through other means, such as theft or a quest is also valid, but it should involve some story that the Exalt can tell later on.

After the Exalt has his disk, He begins with a series of tricks until he can graduate to the first charm by pulling them all together. After this, he sets into actually understanding the style's relationship with the sun.

Weapons and Armor

Whirling disks are clearly the focus of this art, and are treated as unarmed for practitioners of this style. Both mundane and artifact versions of these exist, ranging from actual children’s toys to bladed and weighted disks to huge Moonsilver and Orichalcum Disks with Hearthstone settings.

No armor may by worn with this style, as it requires very quick motions.

Rate: 1
Min. Strength: 1
Min. Dexterity: 2

A favorite among the more trendy youth of the South. Some with increased resources costs light up with tiny, useless essence lights. On a botched roll, the string tangles and a total of 5 cumulative successes must be made on Dexterity + Sailing rolls or an appropriate Dexterity + Craft.

Weighted Disk (Resources •)

Rate: 1
Min. Strength: 1

On a botched roll, the string tangles and a total of 5 cumulative successes must be made on Dexterity + Sailing rolls or an appropriate Dexterity + Craft.

A successful attack can also be used to ensnare an opponent and do no damage. The intention to do this must me announced beforehand. Record successes in excess of the dodge or parry attempt. A Strength + Athletics check against that number wriggles free.

This disk, often made of Starmetal, has a setting for a single hearthstone on one end. It is especially well balanced, as well. All artifact versions of the weighed disk are immune to the tangling effects of the botch.

The Whirling Sun (Artifact ••)

Speed: +12

Damage: +10B
Defense: +0
Rate: 1
Min. Strength: 3
Min. Dexterity: 3
Min. Martial Arts: 4

Hearthstone Settings: 2

This Artifact version of the Whirling Disk, which is about the circumference of a small dinner plate, functions as a Weighted Disk except that it has two settings for hearthstones. It is almost exclusively made of Orichalcum, and gets the usual bonuses as such.

The Shifting Moon (Artifact ••)

Speed: +12
Accuracy: +2
Damage: +7L
Defense: +0
Rate: 1
Min. Strength: 2
Min. Dexterity: 3

The counterpart to the Whirling Sun. Although it does less damage and has no hearthstone settings, that damage is lethal. Also, any attack to entangle with this whirling disk gets two extra dice.
