The Death of the Primordials

The Autochtonian plague swept through Malfeas, and the Yozi were slain by it. Their third circle souls were torn apart by their own essence as it swept through them, and most of the second circle souls collapsed and burned under its wrath. The Primordials themselves were killed, and they discorporated into nothingness. As Malfeas faded into nothing with a crack of melting brass and cracking stone, every first circle monstrosity was dropped instantly into Elsewhere. That massive void could not support even their alien life, and with very few exceptions they all perished. Those that were in Creation did live on, though they are severed from their progenitors. Those that were cut loose when many of the sorcerors that controlled them perished rampaged across the face of the world, before being hunted and killed by the remaining terrestrials, weak celestials, and determined packs of mortals.

The wrath that struck down the primordials was not of the sort that killed their Malfean brothers in the first age; it was not even enough to truly force them to face fetich death. They were discorporated, their bodies flayed by the rampaging essence of the plague. Their bodies began to work themselves back together, weaving the streams of essence that flowed around them in Elsewhere; and within months, these incomprehensible beings had rebuilt their nearly limitless power. They were still captive, and their names still bound them; but many came back changed. The Malfeas that regrew had new and bizarre features, and was empty of the small demons that had swarmed over it. Now, the higher souls set about rebuilding the power of their masters, and the lower souls set about breeding and repopulating the world. A few of the more common species had surviving members to model the new breeds after, but many were lost forever or permanently altered.
