History

Outbound Soul thought she would be a god by now.

She grew up in Yu-Shan, where her father, a mid-level divinity employed by the Bureau of Destiny, arranged for her training as his messenger and agent both in Creation and Heaven. She took to the job with all the arrogance of someone who was promised godhood by his employer. Careful not to overstep her bounds, she only bossed least gods around, and always displayed humility to those in power.

Every few years, she would ask her father for the Endowment that would elevate her over her mortal beginnings, but he always had an excuse to lay the promotion off for another decade or so.

Despite the resentment she felt for being denied what should be rightfully hers, she fulfilled her tasks expertly, still clinging to the hope of becoming a goddess one day.

After 150 years of living as a half-god, she felt the first effects of aging. Never in her life was she more scared than at the moment when she realized that she would probably die of old age like all those common mortals.

In her desperation, she discreetly and painfully slowly started to build a cult of mortal worshippers around her by using her Charms and snippets of information gleamed from the files of her father’s office.

In the last three years she has regularly sneaked off remote places in Creation to promote worship by providing mortals with miracles of divine knowledge and godly retribution against their rivals. The great need for secrecy – with a father in the Bureau of Destiny, having a cult of mortal worshippers is a very dangerous thing indeed – has hampered her efforts such that she only has a tiny number of followers scattered across Creation. The cult is too small to grant her Essence, but it does replenish her Willpower and it makes her feel like a god, which, to her, is the greater boon.

Understanding that her father will let her die a mortal death has made her receptive for any attempts at brokering trades or blackmail against him that have even the least chance of resulting in her divinity. She is still somewhat careful, but her fear of death is blinding her more and more to the vast risks of betraying her father.

Should her desperation increase, she might even intentionally expose the existence of her cult to the Censors, hoping her father will deify her so as to not be liable for her anymore. She would rather face the severe punishments this would entail that die a mortal death.
