How the Lord of Silent Repose became imprisoned in the Granite Watchtower.
Well, way back the Despot and First & Forsaken Lion opened started talking about establishing diplomatic relationships. The F&FL offered to send an envoy, but the Despot said that he would only accept one who wouldnt be an embarassment vis a vis the Realm. F&FL countered with offering an Abyssal who wouldnt cause trouble, and the Despot accepted so long as the Abyssal kept his presence quiet and swore that his embassy would obey the laws and justice of Gem.
So the Lord of Silent was duly dispatched and swore on the unspeakable name of the Malfeans that he and his staff would obey the laws and justice of Gem. Three great bells tolled deep in the earth as the Malfeans sanctified this dread oath.
However, certain factions in the court of the First & Forsaken Lion didnt want a loyalist Abyssal roaming around Gem where he might stumble upon certain things they hadnt told F&FL about. So, the Lord of Silent Repose was sent a replacement assistant Yigor the Nemessary . Yigor then goes and gets himself spotted stealing some documents from the Lord Steward of Gems office before disappearing.
The Lord of Silent Repose is called up to answer the charges of Espionage, and while the Despot doesnt necessarily believe the Abyssal was behind it, he still holds the Moonshadow to account for his servants actions. The Abyssal is sentenced to be held at the His Despoticness' Pleasure, but you know his heart isnt in it because instead of the Scorpion Pits, its a comfy cell in the Diamond Palace with running latrines and towels.
That lasts about 2 days before the scared Palace Guard quote security precautions and cart him down to the Ruby Citadel and ask the army to hold him. The tough army jailors last 3 days, before white-faced and trembling they bring him to the Granite Watchtower and tell the City Watch that they are looking after him. Somebody signs a chit, and lo and behold, custody is transferred to the Captain of the Watch (Brand at the time).
A day later the campaign starts. :-)
