As several of you are taking sorcery and planning on summoning demons, I though I would take a moment to describe the general feelings of the bureau and the Yu-Shan community on the subject matter.

A) Demon summoning is Certainly allowable. The gods wrote that provision into the Treatise long ago, both to give the primordials a sense that freedom was achievable and to create a nice pool of slave labor for their Exalted pets... er... Champions. It is however explicitly forbidden for any being to summon a thrid circle demon. The first age solars got away with flaunting this law routinely, but then they were effectively 300 deathlords without the resonance and slightly askew in the head. (I.E. No one was willing to mess with the deliberative, and the US was busy with Grand tourismo X.)

B) The Bureau of Destiny holds no specific position on the use of demons by its members. However, any staff who summon demons without knowing the appropriate level of banishing spell or higher are considered foolish, and generally get passed over for promotion, until such time as they prove themselves capable of thinking through more than one potential outcome and showing attention to details and professional preparedness. As this means that most newly initiated Sidereals will then be required to dedicate two spells to this effect, many ignore it until later.

As the vast majority of gods are unable/willing to use sorcery, they generally frown upon it and consider sorcerers with envy and annoyance. Having demons at one's beck and call simply exasperates this.

The remaining Sidereals appear to be mixed on the use of summoned demons. Most disdain the practice, for fear that somehow this weakens the bonds that chain the Yozi's in. Several have reviewed the rules governing the covenant with the Yozi's and sorcery and do not understand how demon summoning is actually possible within the boundaries. Others still are happy to exploit the Yozis and use them to defeat other demons and to various purposes across creation.

It is universally considered folly for any Sidereal to summon Perenolle or Stomach bottle bugs. Specifically, the concern is what a Primordial might be able to do to a sorcerer for even a moment by taking control of a demon wrapped around said sorcerer, or worse still, a demon residing just behind the sorcerer's heart. Some younger Sidereals ignore this and point to the fact that centuries have gone by without any demon ever being controlled directly. Elder sidereals point out in rebuttal, "That we know of."

C) Yu-Shan

Demons are considered convicts in Yu-Shan. No second or third circle demon should ever be summoned within the boundaries of yu-shan, and this is a level 5 offense. 1st circle demons found outside of the summoners domain without escort will be summarily executed on the spot, and their essence destroyed permenantly. Demons are never allowed to pass through the gates.
