Abyssal Thrown Charms by GoldenH

Screeching Shadow Counterattack

 Cost: 6m + HL
 Duration: Instant
 Type: Reflexive
 Minimum Thrown: 4
 Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Aid of Ill Wind and Lightning Clutch of the Raptor

As the unknown danger lurks in the shadows, the raptor strikes against another foe, hoping the confusion will give it time to prepare for the newcomer. Attacked, the Abyssal turns with a single motion and hurls it, his essence caught up along with the power of the counterattack, dissapearing in a sparkle of dark light. As his essence spirals around the arrow, which is dragged back and forth making it swerve chaotically through the air, a shadow flitters about, sparkling darkly, reforming into the Abyssal when the arrow strikes where his eye first landed.

When the Abyssal is attacked, percieved or not, he may chose to activate this charm. After the attack has been rolled, the Abyssal may chose any percieved target within range of his thrown weapon (no perception check is granted; hidden targets are not revealed), and then attack it; this may be a mortal, another exalt, or even some immobile object such as a tree or rock. While this attack may be defended against, anything less than a perfect defense will be hit by the counterattack from this charm as per Accuracy Without Distance, and the Abyssal will be teleported there as well. Should a perfect defense be used against this charm, then the weapon will tumble harmlessly to the ground, teleporting the Abyssal atop of it. This charm does not automatically return the weapon to the Abyssal's hand, so he should make certain that he choses a place where he can retrive the weapon. The Abyssal must have a thrown weapon in hand when this charm is activated, or it will fail. Since this charm is considered a counterattack, other counterattacks cannot be used in response to it.

This charm is a perfect defense against dodgeable attacks; however, it is vulnerable in that if the target chosen is not outside the area of the charms effect, the Abyssal will be unable to dodge the attack. This applies to certain kinds of perfect attacks such as Cascade of Cutting Terror and Accuracy without Distance. However, it can dodge normally undodgeable attacks, so long as this condition is met.

Was not expensive enough. I know it should probably cost a WP or something, but since I have a necromancer character, I want to keep my WP drain to a minimum.

If it's going to be a perfect defense and a perfect attack then it really does need the WP cost... - CorlanDashiva

I thought it would be fine at 8 motes if you dropped the "perfect" bits - that is, make the dodge rolled and the attack not perfect. ^_^ Just my opinion, of course. - David.

Well, SSE definately is perfect, and doesn't have a WP cost. So, I'd say it could not work against undodgeable attacks, if that would make you feel better.

I just read through it again to see if there was anything to change, and I don't think so. The only really undodgeable attack it'd work on is a theoretical melee or brawl attack, since there's no way you're going to outrange an arrow with a thrown weapon, and all it means is that they need to combo triple-distance technique with their cascade of cutting terror, or something. - GoldenH
