Lunar Perception

Supernatural Senses

Hunter's Eye Technique
Cost: 1 mote per soak reduction
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Perception: 1
Minimum Essence: 1
Prerequisite Charms: Silver-Soul's Perception.
Every creature has weak spots, and the hunter knows just where to find them. Be it weak spots on a mortal armor or that of a Chosen, soft spots on a human body or in the scales of a Tyrant Lizard, there is always a weak spot. All the hunter has to do is strike there, and his enemy will fall more easily. Using this Charm, the Lunar reduces his enemy’s soak – whatever its origin – by 1B/1L per mote spent. The Lunar may not use more motes to power this Charm than he has dots of Perception.

Striking the Artery Technique

A hunter does not fight. He falls upon his prey, and with a single bite on the neck, it is over. he hunter knows where to strike, where to sink his teeth to quickly dispatch his victim, and the Full Moon, the mightiest predators ever to walk on Creation, understand this to a preternatural level. For 3 motes, the Lunar can ignore an ammount of his opponent's soak equal to his Perception, whatever its origin. Those struck by this Charm also bleed, even if Exalted, losing 1 health level every turn until they receive medical attention(a dice action wits+medicine roll that has at least one success).

Limb-Maiming Flourish
Cost: 6 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Minimum Perception: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Striking the Artery Technique.
Knowing the preceits of the flesh, how it works, how to shift, change and destroy, a Lunar may strike to maim flesh, not draw blood. Subtly shaping the form of the opponent where he strikes, the Lunar may use Limb-Maiming Flourish to supplement an attack. Every health level of damage dealt in this attack can be used to reduce a physical attribute or Appearance by 1, minimum 1. Successes used to lower attributes are 'wasted' and deal no physical damage to the Lunar's opponent. An Exalt recovers one dot of a trait lowered by this Charm per week, but the scarification is permanent on mortals.

Sense-Sharpening Change
Cost: 2 motes per increase, 1 willpower
Duration: One Scene

Prerequisite Charms: Silver-Soul’s Perception.
Using this Charm, the Lunar can heighten all of his senses far beyond those of normal humans. His ears grow to better hear sound, his nostrils flare to enhance his ability to smell, his eyes sharpen to enhance his sight - he can even taste individual ingredients in a meal and feel the slightest wind on his skin. For the duration of the Charm the Lunar's player adds one bonus dice for 3 motes of Essence spent to Perception rolls. However, all his senses are likely to become overloaded - when under extreme stimuli, he must roll a Wits+Awareness roll every turn(with a difficulty set by the storyteller, one for shouts, three for a powerful waterfall, five for an enraged crowd or a full-scale battle) or suffer a two-die penalty for all rolls until the stimulus abates or until he makes the roll.

Ever-Wary Fox Technique

Prerequisite Charms: Silver-Soul's Perception
Lunars are very aware of their enviroment, and as such, very difficult to ambush. As long as the motes remain committed for this Charm, the Lunar will not be ambushed by any foe his senses can perceive – he will always be aware of the attack in advance, able to defend normally, no matter how well the enemy has rolled, or even what magics he uses. He will not be aware of immaterial beings or such unless his normal senses would provide him the ability to perceive them. This is not a perfect effect, and may be beaten by sufficiently powerful magic.

Observed Prey Instinct
Cost: 2 motes

Prerequisite Charms: Ever-Wary Fox Technique.
Using this Charm, the Lunar know can instantly know wether he is being observed, either by normal means or magic. It activates automatically as soon as the Lunar comes upon sustained observation - a casual glance or a flirtatious look are not enough to trigger it. The Charm guides his perception to gather further information, allowing a Perception+Awareness roll. One success merely confirms the Lunar is being observed, while additional successes reveal the number and direction and location of observers(one per success). A Lunar observed by magical means will know the viewpoint from which he is being watched but not the actual location of the observer.

Blood-Kin Sense

Prerequisite Charms: Silver-Soul's Perception.
With this Charm, the Lunar can immediately sense the blood ties between other individuals. A Lunar's player may make a Perception+Awareness roll when the character targets the Blood-Kin sense in an individual. One success allows the Lunar to know if the individual is related to anyone the Lunar knows, why three successes tell the exact degree of the relationship, and five successes allow the Lunar to sense firm details of the subject's lineage, including a capsule history of the being's ancestor's physical abilities for a number of generations back equal to the Lunar's Essence. If the Lunar tastes the target's blood, his player gains three bonus dice to the roll.

Blood on the Wind

Prerequisite Charms: Perception of the Moon-Kissed.
By means of this Charm, a Lunar can track creatures through any terrain. To the Lunar, trail is as clear on solid stone as it is in woodlands or on soft ground. The Lunar is consdered a supernatural tracker, automatically able to follow any mundane prey without a roll and receiving his Essence in automatic successes in any of his Perception+Survival rolls to track supernatural beings.

Sensing the Hidden Remains

Prerequisite Charms: Blood on the Wind.
The Lunar focuses his senses on an area, and picks the scents of all who had been on the area before him. He may sense impressions of up to his Perception days past, however those might be obscured(by rain or heavy usage of heavy-scented substances in the area). The Lunar rolls Perception+Investigation, with one success meaning he recognizes any scent he knows on the area, three allowing him to perceive emotions and vague happenings, and five allowing the Lunar to draw an accurate picture of at least partly violent scenes that happened on the area, due to minute changes brought by actions and scent brought by emotions.

Bloodhound's Unfailingly Memory

Many hunters do not forget a scent, ever. And the scents they know, they are able to track anytime, anywhere. Using this Charm, the Lunar pays 1 experience point to commit a creature's or substance's scent to memory - thereafter, any time he has to roll to track or recognize the creature or substance, he receives 2 extra dice. Those do not count as Charm dice. There is no limit to how many scents a Lunar may commit to his memory.

Instinctual Canine Recall

Prerequisite Charms: Bloodhound's Unfailingly Memory.
One who tries to trick the hound may find that his very scent sells him away. This Charm instantly activates reflexively, with a cost of 2 motes, any time the Lunar meets a person or substance in his Library, but does not know he is before the creature or substance in question. One may try to disguise it by changing his scent(any Lunar with Shaping the Ideal Form can do so) or masking it, using perfumes or mixing a substance with others. This calls for a Perception+Awareness roll by the Lunar, with a difficulty set by the ST(Usually the number of successes in the Larceny roll to conceal it). This Charm also activates any time the Lunar tries to track things by scent, to tell the Lunar of vestigial impressions - the Lunar may find out by accident that one close to him has met with an enemy, while trying to hunt someone else, for example.

Emotion-Revealing Scent

Prerequisite Charms: Perception of the Moon-Kissed.
With this Charm, the Lunar can sense the emotional state of a subject, even if there are no clear signs of it, as the body's scent will always betray it. This charm automatically scents strong emotions such as fear, anger, hate and love without a roll. The Lunar may also make a Perception+Investigation roll to try to gather a deeper understanding from the scent, one success merely comfirming the impression, three successes denoting the source, target or object causing those emotions, and five successes allowing the Lunar to deduce the reason for the emotion.

Truth-Scenting Method

Prerequisite Charms: Emotion-Revealing Scent.
By oberving a target's responses, the Lunar may determine if a person is telling the Truth. The Lunar may observe a number of people in such a manner at once equal to his Perception. This Charm does not detect evasions of the truth, or statements the subject does not realise are not true. Only overt falsehoods can be unearthed with this Charm. To do so, a Lunar rolls his Perception+Investigation against the subject's Manipulation+Performance whenever they try to tell a lie. If the Lunar is successful, he discovers what the subject is lying about.

Night is Day

Prerequisite Charms: Wolf’s Eye Advantage.
The Lunar alters his eyes, receiving flashing, cat-like eyes that allow him to see perfectly in low-light conditions. He treats nightime as daylight, but becomes partially colorblind in normally lit conditions(+1 difficulty to Perception rolls and ranged attacks) for the duration of the Charm. Night is Day does not allow the Lunar to see in absolute darkness - there must be some light, even if that fo the stars.

Perceiving the Hidden World

The Lunar becomes able to 'feel' light incomprehensible to humans such as spectral glows of heat and cold. This allows the Lunar to see in perfect darkness, although his ability to distinguish detail is greatly impaired(+2 difficulty to all Perception rolls involving discerning fine detail)

Seeing Without Looking
Cost: 10 motes

Prerequisite Charms: Perceiving the Hidden World.
With this Charm, the Lunar sharpens his hearing to inhuman degrees, by growing great bat ears. A Lunar can use his enhanced hearing to keep track of others in his vicinity, or to build a picture of the world around him using the air currents, sound, or echoes of sounds sent by the Lunar himself. The Lunar must pick a dice action and roll Perception+Awareness – the difficulty is 1 for quiet wilderness, 2 for a village, 3 for a city, 4 for the proximity to a waterfall 6 for the middle of a large-scale battle or riot, and even more if greater noises are used specifically to hinder the Lunar. One success allows the Lunar to draw a basic picture of his surroundings on his mind, and has a basic picture of the people around him, but it does not differentiate details. Three successes gives him details of all those in the area, identifying the materials of objects and the details of people. Five or more successes allow the Lunar to notice others perfectly, knowing exactly what they are carrying, how fast they move, and their exact activities. With five or more successes, even individuals cloaked by Charms are revealed. With this Charm, the Lunar is aware of an area equal to his Perception x 100 yards. The picture remains on his mind, but he must take another dice action to update it.

Seeking Ears Method
Cost: 6 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: One Scene

Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Seeing Without Looking.
The Lunar grows acute ears, reworking the entire inner structure of his head to better receive sounds. When using this Charm, the Lunar can hear clearly from up to a mile away in a clear day(without rain, great winds or overly loud noises, such as a festival or a battle) and receives +2 dice on all his hearing attempts. He can try to locate any voice he knows with a Perception+Investigation roll in this radius(each success revealing one voice he knows and its distance and location; This receives a difficulty of 3 in windy or rainy days, four for storms and festivals, and five for large-scale battles) and follow it to its source, or simply listen to it, as if he was listening to the voices just outside the room. The Lunar needs full concentration to listen to voices from afar like this.


World Sensing

Weather-Seeing Method

The Lunar rolls Intelligence+Awareness. Each success is translated into a 500-mile radius he can predict the weather of, or a week in advance.

Moonsilver-Scenting Sense
Cost: 3 motes
Duration: One Night
Type: Simple
Minimum Perception: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: Weather-Scenting Method.
With this Charm, the Lunar is able to feel deposits and items of Moonsilver to the range of his senses, and keep sensing it as long as Luna remains on the sky. The Lunar makes a Wits+Awarness roll - one sucess allows the Lunar to ascertain if there is any Moonsilver in a number of miles equal to his Perception. Three successes also provide its direction and approximate distance. Five successes allow the Lunar to judge the quality and condition if the deposits or items.

Understanding

Animal Speech Method
Cost: 3 motes

Prerequisite Charms: None.
Shifting vocal cords is easy for a Lunar Exalted, even to create them where they do not exist. This Charm allows the Lunar to speak like a human when in any animal form. However, there is the question of volume - even when an insect can speak as a human, he must be close to a human's ear to be heard.

Comprehending Ears Meditation

Prerequisite Charms: None.
The Lunar can understand in general terms what is being said in a language he does not know, although in general terms. The Lunar rolls Wits+Linguistics, with the number of successes indicating the level of comprehension. One success allows him to get the general gist of what is being said, while three successes allow for solid comprehension, and five successes allow the Lunar to discern nuances in what is being said. The Lunar is able to understand physical communication just as easily, able to see people trading glances across a room and divine their meaning.

Feral Ears Metamorphosis

Prerequisite Charms: Comprehending Ears Meditation, Animal Speech Method
The Lunar becomes capable of understanding animal speech. The Lunar makes a Wits+Linguistics roll, difficulty equal to 4, and 2 if the Lunar has the Heart's Blood of that species. As animals are very simple, the Lunar usually needs only one success to fully grasp what it says, but particularly intelligent and eloquent beasts may make more successes relevant. The Lunar will always understand animals of the same species as his Totem. This Charm allows the Lunar to speak in the voice of any animal he has consumed without a roll.

Calls of the Human Prey
Cost: 4 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Minimum Wits: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: Comprehending Ears Meditation.
Activating this Charm, the Lunar tries to understand the dialect of those he has consumed. The Lunar makes a Wits+Linguistics roll, with a difficulty equal to 5 - (the number of people that speak that language that the Lunar has the Heart's Blood of). One success gives he Lunar the ability to speak like a young child, three successes give adult speech abilities, and five give the Lunar the skills of a poet. If the Lunar has only the Heart's Blood of people of a certain region, he will carry their accent. Otherwise, he might choose, or just mingle the accents and have an all-encompassing speech. The Lunar may freely read or write in the language for the duration. The Lunar may also borrow the voice of any being he has consumed without a roll.

Mimicking the Familiar Sound
Cost: 6 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Minimum Wits: 4
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: Calls of the Human Prey.
Using this Charm, the Lunar shifts his vocal cords, being able to perfectly mimick any voice he has previously heard. This is indistinguishable from the normal voice, and even close friends would be fooled. If he has heard the voice only briefly, or a long time past, the Storyteller may call for a Wits+Linguistics roll to recall it properly.

Pond of Crimson Memory
Cost: 4 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Minimum Wits: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Calls of the Human Prey.
Within a Lunar's Essence lie all those he has taken form of. A crimson pond within his soul, where the form, the knowledge, the understanding of what makes his fallen foe exist can be turned into their form. From this pond, there are many things the Lunar can draw, besides their shape, when the Lunar learns how to. What their body was best suited to, their specialized knowledge. With Pond of Crimson Memory, the Lunar is able to draw upon the Specialties of the forms within his Heart's Blood forms. He can never use the same one more than once, but he can drawn on many by activating this Charm more than once, and those specialties do not count against the usual limit, or against the limit of dice that can be added by Charms.

A Fair Folk's Surpassing Excellence and an Animal's Excellence Mutations do count for the purposes of this Charm. Moreover, some specialties on beasts are silent, but can be rescued with this Charm. uch as an Spider's ability to weave, or a Lioness' ability to hunt in a pack, usually too subtle for the Heart's Blood, but able to be used with this Charm. Those are always 3-dot specialties, and the Lunar may rescue them by paying 1 experience point per such specialty he learns from a form he has the Heart's Blood of. He will instantly receive this specialty when in the Heart's Blood form as well, without needing to pay for this Charm then.

Memories Not Our Own
Cost: 10 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: Instant
Type: Simple
Minimum Wits: 5
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Pond of Crimson Memory.
Walking deeper into the pond within his soul, the Lunar can see reflections of a life not her own. Secrets, names, memories, desires... there is much the Lunar can draw from this. Walking within, the Lunar pays for this Charm and rolls her Wits+Investigation, with a difficulty equal to the Essence score of the being she seeks to get the reflections from, and getting more information depending on her margin of success. One Success allow the Lunar to remember everyday names and facts from his prey's life. Three successes allow the Lunar to remember important desires, names and all important moments and facts of his prey's life. Five successes allow the Lunar access to most of his secrets and countless menial details of his prey's life. Ten or more successes unlock repressed memories even the prey may not be aware of, and even gives hints of stolen memories.

A botch makes the prey's personality take over the Lunar for a Scene. The Lunar may make roll a virtue whenever the prey does something that the Lunar's virtues are contrary against(Conviction if the prey tries to dissolve his accomplishments or kill the Lunar, Compassion if the prey tries to hurt his loved ones, Temperance if the prey gives in to horrible vices, and Valor if the prey is staining his reputation), and manages to wrestle control when he accumulates as many successes as his prey's Essence.

Veil of Stolen Memories
Cost: 6 motes
Duration: One Lunar Phase
Type: Simple
Minimum Wits: 5
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisite Charms: Memories Not Our Own.
With Veil of Stolen Secrets, the Lunar pulls out the reflected memories from the pond, but instead of trying to understand them, the Lunar simply scatters them to the winds, filling his mind with a veil made of those reflected memories! Whenever one tries to read the Lunar's mind or assertain something about him through his thoughts, they may see only his prey's thoughts instead! When one such attempt occurs, the Lunar rolls his Wits+Performance against the enemy dice pool(Perception+Socialize or Investigation, if there is no such pool) to try and make them see only the prey's memories, values and desires. The Lunar is fully conscious of his own. This is not a Perfect Effect.
