Incomparable Agony Technique

Cost: 6 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Simple
Min. Investigation: 5
Min Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Unsurpassed Interrogation Method

Roll Willpower and add a number of automatic sucesses equal to your permanant essence, resisted by victim's Willpower+Essence. Works only on restrained or willingly motionless victims within 5 yards, and never on targets with higher essence than the abyssal. Successes subtract 1 temp willpower, or cause 1 autolevel of bashing or lethal damage, don't all have to be applied. The Abyssal must pass a conviction check to use this power on someone, so terrible are it's effects.

Comments:

Nice charm... it really is... encompasses the Vader style grip all the way along to a psychic mind-blasting nastiness. It's a wonderfully evil thought. But... would it ever really happen? Even the most virtueless cur is going to have willpower of 2, and essence of 1. And they have to have been dream-eaten or be very callous. The lowest a normal mortal is going to get is willpower 4, essence 1... Conviction + Essence isn't usually a massive die-pool, and if you're using this on your right hand man (because he failed you for the last time, natch) then he's likely to have a willpower of 6-7 or so. This is an essence THREE charm, costing a whole 6 motes per roll, and is 4 charms into the tree... Should it really be 50/50, considering the target has to be in a situation where you could probably just stick a knife in him, or do various other heniously nasty punishments? It doesn't seem worth it, to me. I've had a few thoughts about what could be done to make it better... possibly changing the pool to be bigger, include investigation or willpower of the abyssal, to make it much more likely, or another approach, make the results nastier, giving a long-term penalty to disobedience afterwards, maybe? Anyone else got any ideas how to make this worth it?
