Franciska, The Most Beloved Daughter

Character Portrait

Franciska was born of a union between a blonde haired southern summoner of some minor repute and her mother, Zsofika, The Kite Flute (Games of Divinity, page 106). Zsofika had grown bored with being confined to the prison that is Malfeas, and wanted to be set free, and so she started manipulating her newborn into being her agent in this endeavour. Growing up in Malfeas itself, tutored by her mother, Franciska learned quite a few secrets of her mother's trade, and quite takes after her. She never knew her father.

Having grown up in Malfeas under the watchful eye of Zsofika Franciska isn't the most wonderful personality to be around, while she isn't downright a vile person, and in fact has her half-demonic heart in the right place, she fails to grasp certain nuances of interaction in the mortal world. Nonetheless when she finally left Malfeas for the mortal world and wound up in Boil she managed to make a name for herself by joining The City Patrol, where she's now a rather high ranking commanding officer.

Franciska is utterly unaware of her mother's duplicity (assuming her only care for Franciska really is to help free her from Malfeas) and genuinely believes in her mother's love. This is why flames remind her of her mother's watchful gaze, and she'll toy and stare at them if she has time to do so. Her goal is still to free her mother, although she has no idea yet how she'll accomplish this.

Like her mother Franciska's focus is on finding targets, hunting them relentlessly, and disposing of them. Due to her heritage she was born in a tireless state, allowing her to unerringly chase targets. This is further helped by a special form of the same Tracking charm Zsofika uses, specially taught to cater to Franciska's abilities. This has obviously gained her some repute in the dirty industrial city, leaving her somewhat influential in the town.

Because of her superhuman skill with weapons, she's gained the reputation of being one of Boil's master swordsmen. Her swordplay is matched only by her ability to perform, schooled in the ways of the infernal dance by her mother: one of the greatest performers of Malfeas. She generally wields two short daiklaves made of jade, and The Most Beloved Daughter's Vambraces, cut braids of Zsofika's hair wrought into powerful shielding bracers. The left of the pair holds the Flamelicked Ruby, her infernal manse's hearthstone, making her completely immune to mundane flame, and shielding her greatly from magical flame attacks. This means you can often find her toying with candle flames and the like, because of her resistance and affinity for the flames.

During her stay in Boil she's obviously become somewhat influential, and has a lot of backing within the City Patrol, but she has a few contacts and loyal followers as well, amongst which: Fragrant Rose, a thief and information broker, and the voice of Nathanial Barr, one of the five chief overlords of the smugglers' syndicate within the city. Vestan d'Nancoeur, a rich boy born into money through his parents, a master duellist and an avid (though rather lousy) gambler. Last but not least, Dimitry Ivanov, a man working under Franciska in the City Patrol, a massive hulk of a man with a heart of gold, who inspires the utmost loyalty amongst those working under his command.

They come in a pair and reduce the number of successes from all melee attacks on the wearer by -1, and all missile attacks by -2. The left of the pair contains a setting for a hearthstone, and the vambraces require the commitment of 3 motes of Essence.

Hearthstones:
- Flamelicked Ruby [3]: This hearthstone is the color of flame itself, though it seems to glow it emits no actual light. A character who bears this hearthstone will come to no harm from searing heat and open flame, even when bathed in them. The hearthstone devours the heat of mundane flame entirely, and increases the wearer's soak against direct attacks with magical flame by 8.

Henchmen and Allies

Dimitry Ivanov (Henchman)

Dimitry Ivanov was never the brightest bulb, despite his good intentions and his heart of gold. Facing a life of low paid grunt work and living in the slums, Dimitry instead opted to use his mass and bulk in the service of the City Patrol. Not the most intelligent he still rose slowly through the ranks through his actions and the loyalty he inspired among his peers and later those working under him. He's a leader much in the way of the drill sargeant; not a brilliant tactician, but his men follow him unconditionally.

After Dimitry heard enough about Franciska's exploits, he requested a transfer to work under her command. Franciska has saved the burly man at least once or twice in the time they've worked together, and Dimitry is steadfastly loyal to the woman, despite her gruff personality.

Dimitry has a heart of gold despite his burly exterior, which is for a large part responsible for the loyalty he inspires among his men.

Physically he's a rough and imposing looking man, with a bald head and a rough beard framing his large square jaw. His skin is slightly tan and his eyes a dark brown. His beard is black.

Vestan d'Nancoeur (Ally)

Born to a wealthy merchants family (the d'Nancoeurs) Vestan never really had to work for a day in his life. He is many things, traveller, philsopher, entrepeneur (at times), ladies man, duellist, and many other things. Vestan lives life to the fullest and tries to get as much enjoyment as he possibly can, he does this through duelling, gambling, and generally slumming it when he feels up to a challenge.

One time however the challenge was too great, he was cheated at a game of cards in a tavern that just so happened to be a hotspot for criminal activity. His pride got in the way and he refused to pay up, which of course didn't go over so well with the other men in the establishment. Luckily for Vestan Franciska happened by outside the tavern just as they were about to beat him into a bloody pulp - or worse - and together they drove the ruffians off.

Vestan first noticed her skill with a sword, besting even his own master swordsmanship. Of course, Vestan wouldn't be Vestan if he didn't notice Franciska's voluptuous curves and unearthly beauty as well. Stricken with a sad sort of infatuation with the girl he did his usual flourish, kissed the back of her hand, and pledged his sword to her service.

Physically Vestan is a rather tall and lithe looking man, with well kempt long blonde hair, and pale skin, as well as piercing blue eyes.

All heroic mortals use Essence-dodge even without the Awakened Essence merit, their Dodge pools reflect this.
