Blade of the Black Chrysanthemum
From the writings of Foundation Apex, archivist to Ledaal Visaren of Tuchara:
The Register of Enchanted Weapons holds some thirty thousand entries, including over two thousand greater weapons and forty-seven ‘unclassifiables.’ The fabled Blade of the Black Chrysanthemum is among the latter. It is an artifact of unclear provenance and nearly unparalleled power. The Fire Chronicle indicates that it fell from the hand of a dying Primordial during the Dawn War, while Kettle of Great Forks states in his Memoirs from Thorns that its etchings resemble those of the later Amarnath period of classical art.
The weapon appears as a grand daiklave of unusual length and slimness. Etchings of chrysanthemum blossoms spangle the lower part of the blade. It is forged of an exotic black metal of indeterminate origin. The immortal funerist-hero Quenzhang, who wielded the blade to great effect in the Calin-Sijan War, wrote that it had “the feel of a relic blade, of which I have borne many in my time; but the sun’s touch does it no harm, and so I must conclude that it is a real and tangible thing whose nature is beyond my understanding, a thing neither living nor dead.”
The blade’s power to siphon off the Essence of its victims has been well documented, as has its abilities to extract other qualities. Names, identities and souls have all been devoured by the blade or passed on to its wielder. The Register of Enchanted Weapons states that the Blade of the Black Chrysanthemum currently resides in the keeping of the Court of Silk and Steel.
