Maran and Karan, twin Exalts of Sol and Luna.
Twins are rare. Twins of opposite genders are rarer. Siblings Exalting outside of the Terrestrials are rare. Twins Exalting to different Gods is even rarer. In Maran and Karan's case, all these rarities came together to break the rules. Both highly intelligent, Sol chose Maran for his dedication to learning all there is to learn, and Luna chose Karan for her practical applications of knowledge. They exalted under very different circumstances though.
Karan exalted as a No Moon in the middle of a blizzard, when she used nearby trees to construct for herself a shelter, managing to almost weather out the storm. In the end, her shelter was destroyed, but her ingenuity and survival instinct brought her to Luna's attention. Exalted under Luna's face, Karan's tattoos were given to her by a passing No Moon who was disenchanted with the Silver Pact's beliefs, who taught her the basics of Lunar Lore, and the true history of Creation. He told Karan to find her own truth in the world, and to make a future for herself.
Maran was exalted as a Twilight Caste in the depths of a Solar tomb he and some friends were raiding for the treasures contained within. The tomb's defense automata were active, and had already slain two of his friends. In a panic, he had blindingly run into one of the rooms, and found an ancient Warstrider. Awestruck, he was ripped from his reverie by the sounds of his last remaining friends trying to escape the automata. On an instinct, he ascended the Warstrider, and found it open. Dropping into it, he looked looked about, rationalising out how to make it work. A flash of insight came to him, and he activated the Warstrider and fought the automata, emerging victorious, and a Chosen of the Unconquered Sun.
Outcast for their exaltations from their villiage in the North, the twins walked the icy wastes for months, grappling with the elements and their new powers. Maran had brought the Warstrider with him, and his ability to calculate and discover coupled with Karan's aptitude at physical work meant they were able to keep it running. After half a year on the ice, they chanced across the city of Pandora, who took poorly to their Warstrider, which they had to leave at the very edge of the city wall. It only took them a couple of months, however, to depose the existing rulers and establish themselves in their place.
In the time they've been Exalted, they've been plagued by memories of their former lives. Their shards turned out to be partners in earlier ages, and, over time, instinct drove Karan to seduce her twin brother. Although initially, he was resistant, time and effort wore down the barriers, as the memories of the shard played with his own. In Pandora they were married, and reign as King and Queen. However, while rumours abound in the city, they've never made their status as siblings known to the populace.
Both Maran and Karan are attractive, both tall with long blond hair and deep blue eyes, although Karan's have taken on a slight appearance of her Snow Fox totem. Both are fair-skinned, and Maran maintains a well-trimmed beard. Karan's Tell manifests itself as her eyes and a thick lock of snow-white hair running through the middle of her hair, ending in black streaks.
They both dress finely but simply, favouring well-made and slightly adorned robes over ostentatious displays of their station. Maran rarely leaves the city, spending time in libraries and his orrery, although he occasionally leaves for tombs and other places across the frozen north. Karan spends at least 2 consecutive days a week out of the city, living in the wilderness and maintaining it from the passage of thoughtless travellers.
The twins love each other greatly, possibly even deeper than most lovers, with the feelings of their shards entwined with the connection only twins share. Their dedication to one another is unbreakeable, and Karan swore to disembowel herself if Maran were to die. Karan has borne one child to Maran, a daughter named Lumina who nears her first birthday. Lumina has a wet-nurse ever at her side, and is guarded at all times vigilantly.
