The Cosmology of Creation and it's Surroundings
Just random thinking really, started off by thoughts into the Polar Hearthstones. We know that Exalt animas can bleach things or stain them (or damage them in the case of the DBs). We also know that there are really no limits to what a sufficiently powerful charm or spell can do.
I postulate that the Wyld is raw essence. Essence is power, but it is also the intrinsic ability to change. Charms and spells work by changing things, one way or another. The Wyld is what happens when the power is uncontrolled. That is why people with high virtues can wrestle the Wyld under their control, forcing it to comply with their wishes. It is just like manipulating essence, but on a more primal level.
In my Abyssals game (and it doesn't matter if the players read this, it is mere philosophizing on my part mainly) I am going by the assumption that the Elemental poles help stabilise creation not by exerting any effect on the Wyld but by acting as giant Manses - think of all Creation as a super-charged Demesne. When you build a manse, you have to include places to bleed off excess energy if the manse level is not the same as the demesne level, and I suspect that is what the demesnes in creation are: bleeds from the uber-manses that are the elemental poles. This does mean that if you could find some way to disable the elemental poles, creation would be subsumed by the Wyld fairly fast.
What else does it mean? Well, firstly, it means we can apply some rules to the Wyld and to charms like Wyld Shaping Technique. (I know some of you will be thinking that rules and the wyld shouldn't mix, but I think they can if you view the Wyld as a massive pool of essence). Firstly, it should be possible to create charms to massively increase your essence regen in the Wyld. Wyld shaping technique can still be used to make basically anything, but only within a certain limit, the more that is made, the less truly chaotic the area that it is made in will be. And making things like magical materials will take a vast amount of energy.
I also like the idea that Wyld areas can be formed, in a similar way to shadowlands being formed. Where shadowlands are formed by massive numbers of deaths tearing the veil between the land of the living and the land of the dead, a Wyld area could be formed anywhere truly massive amounts of essence are expended (watch out in those big scary battles).
Anyone have any thoughts, opinions or questions?
This interacts very elegantly with the theory on Infernal Demesnes that haren and I developed on my infernals page. I like it. - FourWillowsWeeping
