Mask of Celestial Filtration
To the naked eye, these velvet domino masks seem to be nothing more than a comfortable fashion accessory. However, each one conceals a coin-sized ring of Magical Material with a core of jade that rests over the forehead. When attuned to an Exalt's anima, the Mask of Celestial Filtration shows its most useful purpose.
So long as he wears the Mask and commits Essence to its function, the character's anima will appear, for all intents and purposes, to be a Dragon-Blooded anima matching the color of jade in the Mask's coin. His anima will be the appropriate color, and iconic displays will subtly shift to include Terrestrial motifs, though traces of the original icon will remain. Anyone who has witnessed the Exalt's natural anima may notice these traces on a difficulty 3 Perception + Investigation roll.
In addition to this benefit, each Mask provides another benefit, based on its Magical Material:
- Orichalcum Masks resonate with the natural kingship of the Solar Exalted. Add +2 to all Presence and Performance rolls involving leadership.
- Moonsilver Masks emulate the natural deceptive quality of the Lunar Exalted. Add +2 dice to all Larceny rolls to maintain a disguise.
- Starmetal Masks are sympathetic to Jupiter's Essence. Add +2 to Investigation rolls involving interrogation.
- Soulsteel Masks throw an Abyssal cast to the wearer's features. Add +2 to Performance and Presence rolls involving intimidation.
- Jade Masks lends the aspect of the Dragons to a wearer's visage. Add +1 to Appearance.
Needless to say, Masks of Celestial Filtration are highly prized by Anathema wishing to operate in areas where the Wyld Hunt is active, as it allows them to flare their anima with greater impunity. Note, however, that Masks have no effect on their actual anima powers--only its appearance. Also, it does nothing to hide a Lunar's tattoos or Tell. Thus, Immaculate inquisitors might become most interested in a supposed Wood Aspect who is able to burn corpses with a touch or make sorcery cheaper to cast. On the Blessed Isle, possession of any type of Mask besides jade is grounds for charges of collaboration with Anathema.
A Mask of Celestial Filtration requires a commitment of 3 motes to function, and must be worn with the concealed coin over the character's Caste Mark.
Commentary?
I might make the commitment a little higherm like 6 motes, but any way, this is a cool idea.-HeWhoSpeaksOfDarkness
PS- at first i thought the name was Mask of Celestial Flirtation.
I didn't realize it wasn't until I read your comment, and even then I had to re-read the title twice. :) Oh yeah, about the artifact: I think that this probably shouldn't be higher than Artifact 2. (And the name seems more suited to an artifact gasmask than to a disguise.) - Raindoll
