Bingo.
Note that mutations purchased as Merits or Flaws don't and shouldn't count against maximum Essence. Using MThus_Spake_Zaranephilpal/F, you pay the cost for them upfront, rather than tithing out a you raise your Essence.
Moreover, you aren't tied to the Wyld in terms of viability.

That's the idea.
You can have mutations because you are a beastman or a god-blood or because you were descended from a Wyld-touched being or because you experimented with a botched Alchemical potion.
Or anything else your clever monkey heart envisions.
