Commanders
A unit's Commander may also be one of its heroes, but that is not strictly necessary. If so, construct them as a hero as usual. In addition to their rating there, a Commander has two of their own special traits.
Leadership
Leadership is made using a Charisma + War roll. A commander uses his Leadership rating to help rally fleeing soldiers and prevent rout. Generally, such rolls gain a bonus based on the unit's Morale and a penalty based on its Magnitude.
Tactics
Tactics are made using an Intelligence + War roll. A commander may use her Tactics to gain bonuses during mass combat. A unit's Drill rating helps with tactical bonuses.
Generals
In addition to the Commander of each unit, a typical army contains a single General, who determines the entire army's general plans. This is not strictly speaking necessary, but can generally be very useful. Most Generals are also Commanders of a unit. Either way, they use the same Leadership and Tactics ratings as Commanders.
