The gazelle is a lightly built antelpoe with a light brown coat with a distinctive wide black stripe running along its side. White and black markings are on its head along with a white underbelly. Males grow heavily riged straight horns up to 17 inches long while females only get to 6 inches. Unlike most antelope gazelle will jump into the air, called stotting, before running from a predetor. Gazelle range across grasslands, feeding on foliage left behind by larger grazers, concentrated mainly in the Southeast. They live in segregated herds of up to 20 animals and tend to mingle with other species.
