It’s pretty easy to see the difference. One minute, they’re in slightly odd looking waters and a calm sea. The next minute, they’re in the middle of the biggest storm they’ve ever had the fortune to witness, with thick sheets of rain lashing against those on the deck and loud cracks of thunder and the bright flash of lightning. The other thing that makes them certain they’re back in Creation is how they’ve managed to land right smack in the middle of some naval engagement. Their sudden appearance manages to coincide with a slight quieting of the storm and somehow, the Solars and their crew manage to get the distinct impression that everyone is staring at them and their ridiculous ship. | It’s pretty easy to see the difference. And here be Session Thirteen for this crew of pirates.
Session Thirteen
And now we return to the Solars, three of whom seek are speaking with the Fae while Syn is back on the ship. He gives them a tale of adventure and woe, one that stirs the heart and heats the blood while they're never sure what exactly he said. Even the scenery seems to shift subtly to reflect his tale, but if it's meant to be anything but a moving tale, the Solars certainly don't feel anything special about it. But eventually the tale ends and the surrealness stops. Half the crew seem somewhat weepy for it too. The other half just weeps. "And now for what you came for, with just one caveat. You must let me feel your souls. While all Solars are my guests, it is only to one Solar I am allowed to show the way." He says. "If the Solar is not among you, I must bid each of you return the way you came."
You paged Lady Syn with 'Meanwhile, Syn gets very productive on the ship. The human servant continues to linger on the outskirts, in case Syn wants anything. As she watches her surroundings though, she does notice how the scenery she sees keeps changing subtly and somewhat in time with her actions and moods. A little bit like a reflection, only in a metaphorical sense. Might actually be slightly disturbing once she does notice. However, it's the next bit that might gets her really weirded out as she suddenly realises she's been working on repairing parts of the ship for several minutes now. And the repairs actually look pretty decent.'
Megumi stirs uncomfortably. "Feel our souls? Err...what would that entail?"
Ryoujal says, "Feel our souls?"
Big Red leans forward in his chair waiting for more explanation.
From afar, Lady Syn tries to ignore the weirdness without but can't ignore her own actions. "Knowledge and skills I can handle. Just please, please, don't let me become that brash and waggling of the tongue."
"It is a simple process. I touch your castemark and feel your essence to see if it is the same as to the one I am supposed to let pass. It does no harm to the Solar in question." The Fae replies.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: “Ahh, feels good to get to flex about for a bit. Oh sorry, were you planning on doing something right now?"
Big Red stands up "Okay. Then I'll go first." looks to the captain "Just to make sure its safe for the rest of you
Megumi sighs. "One at a time." She looks at Red hesitantly. "If that's your choice."
Big Red nods "Yeah. I am the newest member and least of the crew a loss of me wont change a lot on the ship
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn blinks looks around and sits down with a sigh. "And now I'm loosing my mind."
Megumi says, "It's still quite a risk on your part. But if it is your choice, I won't stop you."
Big Red nods to the captain then turns to there host " I am ready."
The Fae nods and stands as well. "Please flare your castemark." He requests politely. Then he touches the burning mark and focuses. There's a slight hum while the lights seem to shine slightly wrong while the process continues. Red himself gets the uncomfortable feeling of someone poking around his very soul. Then the weirdness stops and the Fae shakes his head, looking somewhat disappointed. "You are not the one. Next?"
Ryoujal says, "I'll go next... I'm sure I can take it."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: A tiny snickering echoes inside Syn's head. "No, I think that would be my line, if I were in me. Then again, I'm not all here, so maybe I am. But where am I? Arr, now I'm talkin' like a fairy. It's been so boring and empty in here."
Big Red shakes his head. "Okay that was weird and a little creepy"
Ryoujal goes up and squats down a bit to flare his mark and wait for what ever's to happen, happen.
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn looks rather frustrated. "Well, unless you're invisible, I'd gather you're talking in my head. Which makes that last bit rather much insulting. boring and empty. Maybe its just not for freaky voices to go routing through."
The Fae touches Ryoujal next and the same thing happens. Ryoujal gets the same uncomfortable feeling before it ends and the Fae shakes his head again. "You are not the one. I suppose that leaves you Captain. And the one who went back to the ship." He waits for the Captain to say something.
Ryoujal steps back, stands up straight, and uncrosses his eyes. "Wasn't that bad..."
Megumi nods. "I suspect she'll not consent to this. But I will." She flares her anima.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Hey, would you rather that I crack wise about the view from in here?"
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "I got one eye. You aren't seeing that much. Unless you mean something pervy. In which case, I will hunt you down and perform delicate surgery with my sword on your nethers."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Ar, ye can't blame a man when it's all right in front of ye."
When the Fae touches Megumi, the light plays music that begins to dance and they are both enveloped in golden light. The light eventually fades and the Fae is smiling. "Finally. You have come. Welcome back once more milady." The Fae actually kneels before Megumi, brushing his cold lips against her hand. "My duty of ages is finally complete. I will show you and all who you declare as guests the route to your prized vessel."
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn blushes and pouts. "Well, use that brain power to figure a way out of my blasted head. To think I was worried about *grumble grumble*"
Megumi blinks. "Well. Thank you. Any member of my crew who wishes may come along." Prized vessel. Ah. It's too bad Orillian's not here. He'd have been her first choice to look the ship over.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Hey, if it weren't fer me ye'd still be asleep on that island. Why do ye think I stuck the most annoying part in?"
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "Yeah. Yeah. Thanks. Now, get out of my head. We've got fae and I don't trust them. I mean they are fae. Soul stripping, sailor stealing beasts from beyond the horizon."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: ...aye, about that, see... I be stuck here. Especially without my body around..."
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn faceplants. "Well, where is it?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Syn feels a faint urge to shrug.
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "You don't know?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Aye. Not a hint."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: For all I know, I be dead."
"There is one more thing though milady. Might I inquire if there was one more member to this party?" The Fae asks gently. "I do not mean to pry, but I notice your numbers are just shy of five."
Megumi nods. "There was another...he was lost in the journey."
Ryoujal says, "We tried but...."
The Fae nods with a smile. "I see. I believe I can help you in that regard. I do request a small boon though milady. If it so pleases you."
Megumi raises an eyebrow. "What sort of boon would you require?"
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "Argh. No. You are not dead. Largely because I am not living the rest of my life with you wandering around in my head. No way I'll be able to have any sort of normal relationships. And aren't you supposed to be some sort of magitech genius? So figure something freaky weird out to find your body then get yourself out of my mind."
Ryoujal says, "And may we ask what you would provide?"
"It is a small one. I merely ask for the vessel in which you used to travel here. The one which I will lead you to will be more than enough to house your crew and sail out of the Wyld, and I wish to have a vessel of my own. I will be grateful if you see fit to grant me this small boon." The Fae replies.
Megumi says, "If it will get us Orillian back, it would be a very worthwhile trade."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: I'm pretty sure I'm not all here, but may as well. Not that we have much in raw materials to work with. Let's find that projector."
Megumi will miss the ship, it's true...but over the course of the past several weeks, it's already been destroyed and rebuilt so much...alas.
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn gets up and goes looking for the projector. "You rebuilt this ship how many times? I'm sure this is the same. Just more fleshy."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: ...hmm. Wyld-shaping." The disembodied voice seems to cock its head to the side. "Something I don't remember reading about. Make me a new body out of Wyld. That's a possibility. Maybe even make ye a new eye."
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "Lets worry about the big problem before we worry about the little one."
The Fae kisses her hand once more with the icy lips. "Thank you milady. I am most grateful. I do not know the name of this one, but he washed up upon my shores some time ago. I have tended to him and treated him as a guest as I must do to all Solars, but he has not been completely responsive." He stands and gestures slightly and the room around him changes. There, lying on a very comfortable bed, is one who looks like Orillian. And he's currently sleeping.
Megumi walks over to him quickly.
Ryoujal goes over to the bed and asks, "Orillian, is that you?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Well, it'd be the least I could do, for ye carryin' me and all.
Big Red gives a smile at seeing Orillian again but stays back so that those who knew him can go see him
To (Shorlixa, Orillian), Lady Syn pages: "Look. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind my eye back. But its more of I'm used to who I am. And that'd be one more thing making me wonder if I'm becoming someone different again."
Orillian sits up with a start and looks around suspiciously as a golden mandala of magitechnical symbols six yards wide flares into life around him, rebuking the behaviour of the Wyld. "No more illusions!" he exclaims angrily.
Megumi grabs Orillian's hand. "Ory...I'm not an illusion if you're not." She presses the gripped hands to her chest, as if to reinforce the impression that she is, in fact, here in the flesh.
The area around Orillian becomes perfectly still and the background doesn't seem to shift so much. The Fae himself looks a little miffed if anyone pays attention to him and edges away from Orillian. In the meantime, the crew has been rather surprised and delighted to see Orillian and begin to crowd too.
You paged (Lady Syn, Orillian) with 'She absolutely sees the sudden light show of a very familiar anima. And by extension, so does the Orillian inside her.'
Ryoujal 's well up with tears to see it's actually Orillian, "Oh it's good to see you once again!" He says giving him a little hug.
Big Red works his way to the back of the gather crowd
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn runs to the edge of the ship and looks towards the light. "This your doing?"
Orillian blinks. "...oh." He seems surprised, but not ready to offer one of his usual cracks for such a situation. "Well, hello... friends." He peers at Megumi, who's holding his hand so close. "Are we... involved? And ahh, yes. The big fellow."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Ha! Aye, that'd be me tellin' the Wyld where it can stick it."
Ryoujal says, "Glad you didn't become... something else..."
Megumi lets go and backs up a step. "Er. No."
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Orillian): Lady Syn flips over the railing and rushes towards the light. "Then I'd say we found your body. Now to get your mind fixed."
Orillian sits up and shakes his head. "Ahh. A pity." He rubs his temples, trying to drag up memories. "The ship?"
Megumi says, "It's....seen better days...."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Yeah, _get me outta here!_"
Lady Syn rushes onto the scene in time to catch Megumi. "Oh, captain. You just never are honest with your feelings are you?"
Syn would be led back by the human servant, since if she tries to get there on her own, she has this annoying habit of getting lost. Even despite just heading straight to the bright light.
Ryoujal lets go of Orillian to say, "Er... how many times did it get mostly get destroyed?"
Orillian scratches his head. "I should repair it then, I suppose. That is my duty, yes?"
Lady Syn says, "That’s not normal."
Megumi raises an eyebrow. "Er...are you alright? You seem terribly disoriented."
Ryoujal says, "He seems fine to me."
The Fae coughs politely. "If you could just ask him to turn that charm off? It's interfering with the rules of the room and could end up being very destabilising."
Orillian mutters, "Pieces. Chewed up. Syn?"
Lady Syn says, "Obviously that’s because you don't use your brain enough to know chunks of his are missing."
Orillian peers suspiciously at the fae, but the Charm fades away.
Lady Syn says, "Ori, turn the magic off. Then I'll see about getting you out of my head. And a right proper welcome back festivity ."
Megumi says, "Out of your...huh?"
Megumi feels as though she missed something here.
Ryoujal says, "He wants to fix things, how is that unusual?"
Lady Syn says, "I blame the island and the Wyld. Maybe evil magics. But he's hitchhiking in my head and its really freaking me out. So we fix this. And Ryou, has he made any cracks about anything or some stupid comment?"
Megumi says, "Because his behaviour overall is confused and un-Orillian-ish."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Oh great, I'm broken."
Orillian cocks his head to the side. "Ahh. That would explain my partial absence."
Lady Syn says, "You're always broken. Now, how do we get you back to normal broken instead of boring broken?"
Ryoujal says, "No... he hasn't!"
Lady Syn says, "See, not normal, big man."
Ryoujal says, "So how do we inject the snarkiness back into him?"
Lady Syn says, "I'm waiting for him to tell me that much."
Orillian looks thoughtful. "Logically, we would require an entity with capabilities similar to the island originally responsible. Or make one."
Megumi glances back and forth between Syn and Ory. "Maybe you two should...umm..." she motions briefly in vaguely obscene fashion. "Er...you know what..nevermind."
Orillian raises an eyebrow. "Perhaps, in a sufficiently wyld-suffused area, the symbolism of such an act would provide the means."
Ryoujal says, "What do you mean Cap... OOOOHHHHH... Yea that would work a treat."
Lady Syn says, "I'm going to have to beat all your perverts aren't I?"
Megumi faceplants.
Megumi says, "Forget I motioned anything."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: ...hey, I'm not terribly enthusiastic about getting it on with myself either. Err, I mean, yes, that sounds like a great idea, from my perspective."
Lady Syn turns red. Whether from embarrassment or anger is open for debate. "Hey, since we reincarnate, maybe if I kill your body, you'll leave my mind."
Megumi says, "Or maybe you'll be stuck with him."
Lady Syn says, "Not helping with the intimidation here."
The Fae just looks on in amusement from one side. The environment also changes subtly to match the moods and ideas of the Solars.
Ryoujal scooches away from Syn's side.
Big Red also just looks on
Megumi is glad she wears armor. Poor Orillian.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Well, I _am_ a very manly specimen."
Lady Syn says, "Well, maybe that doesn't do anything for me."
Ryoujal says, "Um, Orillian, could you talk? We're missing out on a whole half of the conversation here. At least I guess we are..."
Orillian shakes his head. "I'm not privy to whatever the rest of me is saying."
Megumi starts humming a sultry romantic tune popular in the Scavenger Lands a couple years ago, rocking back and forth on her heels. "Well, do you have any other ideas? Maybe something like a kiss would do?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Huh, I was wondering. Well now I know." Lady Syn says, "Bah on all of you."
Lady Syn says, "If it has to be a symbolic act, how about I just knee him in the groin?"
Orillian scratches his chin. "I could attempt to make a- an-." He wrinkles his brow in frustration.
Megumi faceplants.
Megumi says, "Wrong symbolism, I think."
You paged Orillian with 'With some hard focusing, he remembers an artifact called a Torc of Unified Action and how it allows one to share thoughts. Paired with that is the memory of Dream Broadcasters that allows a one-way transfer of visions. Perhaps a more targeted form of it combined with something like the Torc could work to transfer his mind back.'
Orillian says, "Torc of Unified Action. Dream Broadcaster. Combined, focused, and modified... possible. And apparently more palatable to miss Syn."
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian grumbles at himself. "Killjoy."
Megumi snorts. "Silly woman." Takes a step away, just to be safe.
Orillian misses Megumi's commentary as he's deep in technical thought.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Well, mayhaps the captain could serve as an intermediary," he suggests snarkily.
Lady Syn says, "Oh, like you wouldn't do it this way if it was you with the voice in their head?"
Lady Syn says, "I'm all for throwing you into her head and seeing how she likes the suggestions."
Megumi licks her lips suggestively. "Oh, I dunno..." She glances at Syn, then exhales. "Yeah, you're probably right."
The Fae finally coughs politely. "I don't mean to intrude, but perhaps this conversation can be saved for another time?"
Orillian says, "I will need orichalcum. And Starmetal."
Orillian shrugs. "It could."
Megumi nods. "I guess.."
Lady Syn says, "Yeah. Whatever."
"I don't mean to rush, but I'm given to understand that mortals, especially, can be quite affected by the way time flows in the Wyld. Time flows slower here than it would in Creation, and if you tarry too long, you would probably face problems when you return. I will now show you the route to your new vessel. Please follow me." The Fae bows to them and starts walking, obviously expecting them to follow.
Ryoujal says, "Yea, we should probably get out of here as soon as possible..."
Orillian nods. "Perhaps it still has forging stores."
Lady Syn says, "So we grab the other ship and follow the new one?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: ...I hate the Wyld."
Megumi shrugs. "Sure." She follows along.
Lady Syn says, "You and me both."
Big Red follows the group
The entire crew follow along while the Fae's two human servants trail behind to ensure no one strays. Eventually, the Fae leads them to a metaphorical gate. "I may not follow you, for I was permitted to guard the vessel without ever approaching it while it was in my care. I trust I have discharged my duties well. The path here is simple. Just walk and you will be able to reach it." The gate opens and they see a wide expanse of ocean, with something shining on the horizon. "The water is perfectly safe to walk on," The Fae reassures them. "Once you reach your vessel, I trust you know how to take things from there. It has been a pleasant duty milady." He bows low to Megumi.
Megumi nods to the fae. "Thank you."
Lady Syn says, "Walking on water. Wow. That’s kind of pompous."
Megumi shrugs. "Whatever works." She turns and starts heading for the shiny object.
Lady Syn follows.
Ryoujal looks at the way ahead to see what lays ahead, "Yea, that sees a little odd..."
Big Red steps out on the water
The water is quite solid for everyone and they can all take steps towards where the shining spot is.
Orillian steps out onto the water. "The water here seems perfectly content functioning as ground for now, but perhaps we should hurry."
Ryoujal says, "Yes let’s just get out of here."
Megumi snorts. "It could change its mind...just to be contrary, I'm sure."
Ryoujal says, "Don't say that!"
Lady Syn moves along quicker.
Ryoujal runs towards the shiny thing.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Yeah, it might hear her.
Big Red shakes his head at the group and continues along
Lady Syn says, "An annoyance for me at best but the others, might be worse."
Megumi strolls for the ship.
Once all of them are on the water, the metaphorical gates close behind them. They're allowed to walk unhindered to said shiny thing. As they walk closer there's the sound of whistling to the tune of a rather popular work song. Then a high pitched voice sings the lyrics "Just whistle while you work," before being followed by a chorus of not always in tune whistles. Then, they finally reach the shiny thing and stare. It's...big. And...it looks like it got a bad paintjob with floral patterns painted over the entire surface of the ship. At least the background is that of some magical material. And it looks kinda like a horizontally sliced baguette bread with holes in various places of the hull that has things that could be bits of lettuce, cheese and ham sticking out. Finally, there are small creatures flitting around working busily on the sandwich. The source of the voice leading the singing is very obviously the big one that looks like the big version of the mini-creatures, made completely from various magical materials. It turns when it sees the Solars and their crew. Then it waves its metallic hand. "Hi!" And the mini-creatures go "Whee!"
Lady Syn says, "You don't have to say it, I will. I really really hate the Wyld."
Ryoujal says, "Is it supposed to look like that?"
The big robot only comes up to about their waists, so it's not too bad if they have to fight it. But it just sits down when the Solars have shown up. "Intruders!" The robot points out with its metallic hand. The mini-robots go "Whee!" and clap their hands. "Come in!" Comes the high pitched voice. "I made tea!"
Megumi climbs aboard. "Uh...oooook." Yeah. This could be fun.
Ryoujal says, "Or it could make our heads ache something fierce."
Orillian shakes his head at the craft and its... maintainers. "Fascinating automata. Obviously malfunctioning, however. Do not worry little machines, I will repair you."
Lady Syn says, "Not enough ale in creation."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: ...a sandwich. A submarine. That's a sandwich. What in Malfeas makes a submarine sandwich!?"
Big Red just shrugs his shoulders and boards the ship
Lady Syn says, "Who knows maybe it was your past incarnation?"
The big robot leads them to the deck before it begins running in circles. "La la la la la." The mini-robots are just having a fun time. On the deck, there are what looks to have been artifacts, although they look to have been fixed...oddly. A good number of them look like candy bars. But there do appear to be some working artifacts around.
Ryoujal says, "It's... cheerful."
Orillian examines the oddity. "Obviously the product of a fevered mind. Or two."
Megumi says, "Very...sugary."
Lady Syn says, "You know its bad when Ori thinks a mind is fevered."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Hey! And this be all wrong. The ship should be much less... edible."
Lady Syn says, "You think? I mean how is this supposed to be fearsome?"
Megumi eyes Syn. "Er...right, gotta get you fixed." She starts looking about the ship for something matching the description of that artifact...or, really, anything useful.
As they root around, Syn finds a connected set of gloves, anklets and collar made from Orichalcum. It looks to have been remade to look cute and fuzzy. Ryoujal finds a belt that looks like it has fishes engraved on it and remade to look like fudge. And the fishes spit saltwater at him. Megumi finds a bow that she instinctively knows is hers. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite look like what she vaguely remembers it to me. More like twisted liquorice and strung with a string of thin candy rope. Red finds a lovely pure white cloak...that's been emblazoned with pictures of candy and soft toys. Orillian looks at the robot that's suddenly burst out saying "I made mashed potatoes!"
Orillian appears vaguely horrified at the mentally disturbed little critter.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Arrg, it seems we be a punchline."
Lady Syn says, "Who the hell makes orichalcum fuzzy?"
Ryoujal looks at his belt and tries to see if there's any more saltwater to drain out, "The same one that makes it fudgy..."
Megumi rubs her jaw as she looks over her bow. "I...think it's broken. Maybe we should get out of here. Possibly after fixing Ory and Syn."
Lady Syn says, "I think I feel my dignity dying a horribly painful death."
Big Red holds up the cape and starts shaking his head. "This is a little on the strange side."
Lady Syn says, "I think about the only thing I've ever seen weirder was that mess of skeletons with beards."
While they root around the deck, it appears there is much more to this...um...ship as the rest of the crew looks about cautiously. "I found a door that leads below deck!" Someone shouts.
Ryoujal says, "Personally I think we should get out of here first then figure out how to undo this."
Lady Syn says, "Part of me is almost terrified to see what’s below." With a sigh she heads to the door. "Might as well get it over with."
Megumi nods. "Yeah, except if the Wyld offers a means of fixing Ory and Syn..." She coughs and gestures again, turning away from Syn as she does.
Orillian nods. "Yes. I'll see if this can still move under its own power. You... with the mashed potatoes, can you lead me to the engines?"
"Sir, yes, sir, I can sir!" The robot says very seriously with a salute when Orillian addresses it. Then it goes back to running in circles. "Wheeeeee!"
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian grumbles. "Swagger, damn ye!"
Orillian pauses for a few moments and blinks at it, then requests, "Lead me to the engines."
Lady Syn says, "What?"
Ryoujal goes over to look at down into hatch bellow the decks.
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian mutters. "I've got no style anymore."
Lady Syn says, "You had style?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Hmph."
Peering cautiously at the open door, at least it's not dark and gloomy. It's all bright and happy, filled with light and cheery pictures of flowers, candy and toys everywhere. Then they go down and see that there are proper corridors and everything too. Only the decor is weird, but the layout looks to be fine. The robot stops running when Orillian makes his request and goes "Okay!". Then it starts motoring its way below deck into the depths of the sandwich. They're eventually led to a room that's probably the engine room. That got broken and refixed. Weirdly.
Lady Syn says, "How bad are we looking at here?"
Megumi has a feeling that someone terrifying created this thing.
Orillian looks the engine over, seeking out any flaws in the repair.
Ryoujal says, "So... we have to get this thing moving?"
You paged Orillian with 'Orillian inspects the engines that look like blocks of toffee made from magical materials. They look in working condition even if the design is very odd. There appears to be a possibility to push the engines beyond their limits, although he thinks that'll make the engines discharge something...sticky. And it might leave a trail of something now and then. He also figures out that while the engines are here and likely need little work, the controls to the engine are somewhere else in the ship.'
The robot is currently licking the engine room's decor. "I love candy!" It intones.
Orillian nods. "I noticed. When was your last maintenance cycle?"
Lady Syn says, "Never, I'd bet."
Ryoujal says, "I wonder if there's a Log or diary around here somewhere that might shed some light on what happened here..."
"Oooh, bicycles are fun! Wheeeeee!" It starts running in circles making little bell noises. The mini-robots that followed along make additional sound effects.
Lady Syn says, "Can I put them out of my misery?"
Megumi rubs her eyes. "Not now. Maybe later."
Ryoujal says, "I would... but I don't think I could bring myself to do it. They're... so like children."
Megumi turns to Orillian. "Can you fix it? SOON?"
Orillian nods. "Yes, I can try. Killing them isn't really an option."
Ryoujal says, "Because we need them to run the ship?"
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Hmm, I'll have to figure out what went wrong with their programming, though. The orphans would love this."
Orillian says, "And the other reason."
Megumi says, "Which is?"
Lady Syn says, "I'd be getting so plastered now but I'm afraid what might happen to my body."
Megumi says, "It'd probably turn into a ham sandwich. ...Tasty!"
Orillian says, "Childlike."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: You know, I can't say I'd mind watching - *ahem*." He whistles innocently in her head.
Orillian thinks. "The engine is... functional. Mostly. The control room is elsewhere." He goes off looking for it.
Megumi shudders to think what the controls might resemble. A pizza, perhaps.
Lady Syn says, "Once I get you out of my head...."
Off they go and the robot follows along, ringing his little bell. Eventually, they come to what they must presume is the control room. It looks like a buffet table with four different tables of food.
"Yay! Dinner!" The robot yells and begins pressing the various pieces of food like buttons and turning the plates like knobs or dials. Something seems to attempt to happen, but in the end, nothing really does.
Lady Syn faceplants.
Orillian stares intently at the array if "controls", trying to divine its purpose. There must be a method to the madness of the automata.
You paged (Lady Syn, Megumi) with 'She figures that the tables are probably the control stations, with the food buttons and knobs as part of the control system. If they press or twist correctly, they should be able to get the ship going. They're not sure what might actually get it to work though.'
You paged Orillian with 'He figures out that each table probably represents a different system for the control of the ship with the food buttons and knobs part of the control system. It's likely that the system just needs some motes to get going, and by pressing the right buttons and twisting the right knobs, they'll be able to sail the ship.'
You paged Ryoujal with 'Each table represents a different segment of control over the entire ship. While he doesn't know which table represents which segment, he knows that all each table requires is attunement so that the system can get going. Also, there's something on each table that can actually be removed, and if so if they're still somewhere on the ship while holding that something, they'll be able to access their part of the system remotely.'
Red can't make anything of the buffet. The robot stops playing with its food and sits down, apparently exhausted. "I'm tired..."
Orillian looks around to the tables. "Alright, hmm. The different tables are different systems. They should be functional, save a lack of Essence committed."
Ryoujal looking at the food and the tables. "Okay... I think I might have an idea on how this work... Each table runs a part of the ship right? Well it seems like you need to attune yourself to a table... then you could take one of these things and you can remotely control the console..."
Ryoujal picks up something that looks like a little calzone with various vegetables and meats all over it.
Lady Syn twitches a bit.
Megumi grabs the number 2 table and looks it over.
Lady Syn takes number one and looks at the pickle remote. "hate wyld."
Megumi commits to her table.
Orillian picks up a smileyfaced cookie, shakes his head, and commits the motes.
Lady Syn sighs and commits to more insanity.
Ryoujal commits to his table.
Megumi picks up her cheeseburger. Mmm. Her tummy grumbles.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: This... be beyond words."
As each Solar feeds the motes into the system, the tables begin to sing and hum and glow. The robots sing along too. Megumi's one starts up first and a cool voice speaks. "Weapons systems online. Functioning at 5 percent capacity." There's a shiny hologram that starts up to show where the functional weapons are, although the words on the diagram are in Old Realm. Then Syn does her commitment. "Engines online and functional. Sails ready. Sea surface mode engaged. Waiting for course input." Orillian's one is next. "Maintainance systems online. Ship at 50 percent functionality. Would you like to change the wallpaper?" Then Ryoujal goes. "Surveillance systems online." A hologram of the ship pops up with little dots all over the place that are moving. Some parts are blacked out though. "Internal surveillance activated."
Ryoujal says, "Wow... Mine's a bit creepy."
Lady Syn says, "Well, I guess the news could be worse."
Megumi says, "Weapons systems could be in better shape, though."
Ryoujal says, "I can't... see a lot of the ship."
Lady Syn says, "If we're talking shapes, there is a lot here that could be better."
Megumi winces. "Point.
Lady Syn says, "Besides, I fear that we might fire olives or something like that and it'd ruin what little rep this ghastly thing doesn't already trash."
Ryoujal says, "But we'll never go hungry."
Orillian frowns. "Orders regarding the wallpaper, captain?"
Lady Syn shakes her head.
Ryoujal mutters, "I wonder which dots are actual crew and which are those little robots..."
Megumi glances at Ory. "Ummm...let's decide that later."
You paged Orillian with 'When he looks at the hologram on Megumi's side, he'll notice lots of mentions of deactivated weapons but there's also a mention of a shield function that is currently out of motes.'
Orillian looks over Meg's shoulder. "Hmm. we have deflector shields. But they need motes."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: If those turn out to be giant pie plates..."
Lady Syn groans.
Megumi says, "So how do I add some?"
Ryoujal says, "Probably the remote?"
Megumi grabs the cheeseburger and wills the shields to power. It's worth a shot.
As they watch, the readouts on the weapons screen changes but only Orillian can see that it says that shields are powering up. Megumi herself is feeling the motes continuously drawn from her as the humming on the console continues and the ship looks like it's being wrapped around by the shield. But it's sucking up a lot of motes and as soon as Megumi stops feeding the motes, the shield collapses. It looks like something is wrong with the shield's ability to store motes.
Orillian frowns and starts running some numbers in his head.
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: The other fragment of Orillian hums as he starts trying the same calculations.
Lady Syn says, "Do you have to hum?"
Megumi says, "Huh?"
Lady Syn says, "Not you."
Orillian begins considering the various 'modifications' performed upon the ship by the malfunctioning automata, the automata themselves, all the 'modified' artifacts, and the working times required for repair. The part running his physical body also starts poking around on the controls to try and find an original blueprint for the ship's final size and its magitech complexity.
Ryoujal says, "It's not me? I don't think I was doing anything..."
Lady Syn says, "In my head."
You paged Orillian with 'It's going to take a long time. And need a lot of specialised tools and materials. The automata have done a real job on the ship and all the artifacts and he's not even sure if he'll be able to figure out what some of those were originally supposed to be. He can't even use his spell to find out, since technically, every item on the ship and the ship itself has been 'fixed'. It'll be a long project. However, the ship itself is in proper working condition and can function as a 'normal' ship. In fact, it's probably still better than any mortal vessel out there. If they can just change the decor.'
Orillian reports. "The difficulty of modifications will make it... prohibitive to perform a full refit without first age infrastructure. Unfortunately, I cannot change the laws of Essence."
Lady Syn says, "Eh, what?"
Megumi says, "First age infrastructure?"
"Oooh, humming. I know one!" The robot raises a hand. "Doo doo doo, doo doo dooooo, doo doo dooooooo!"
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian shakes his head. "If those little beasties can be fixed, then we'll have the power to at least clean up the looks... and then it's not that bad shape. Beat anything mortal, even looking like... this."
Lady Syn says, "Ok, can you fix the things? Please say yes. I don't care about beating anything mortal if I will have to at a regular basis since they would never take use seriously without violence."
Orillian says, "Like what I 'found' back... on the island. Especially given that many systems have been repaired, just... strangely."
Megumi says, "Can they be re-repaired, correctly?"
Orillian nods. "Eventually. But not worth it in the near term."
Lady Syn says, "So how do we get the other ship here so we can set out?"
Megumi says, "Even changing the external appearance would go a long way toward....not losing our respectability."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: Arrg, just gimme a few hours with that little creature..."
Lady Syn says, "I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that."
Lady Syn says, "Dull you can do it right? And since we're going through the Wyld to get out, that's time enough. So we get the old ship and go, yes?"
At this point the other members of the crew have pretty much settled down too and Gyar has been dispatched to find out their standing orders from Megumi as well.
Ryoujal says, "Um... we can't get the old ship."
Megumi shrugs. "Set the sails."
Megumi says, "Make course back toward Creation."
Lady Syn says, "What?"
Lady Syn says, "What about all our stuff?"
Gyar nods and moves off to inform the crew. For all that the ship looks a little...strange, it still has most of the things that make a ship, a ship, so they understand the basics of how it probably should be sailed.
Orillian points out, "The Essence engines are functional. And yes, I presume you meant me by "dull", Syn. And I could perhaps repair the automaton."
Lady Syn says, "Why can't we get the old ship?"
Megumi says, "Made a deal."
Lady Syn says, "A deal?"
From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian inwardly rolls his eyes. "Arrg."
Lady Syn rolls her eye.
Megumi sighs. "Orillian washed up ashore on the fae's island. The fae basically traded us Orillian for the old ship."
Lady Syn says, "Oh. I guess thats OK. But you did trade him just the barebones ship, right? Cause if I wanted a ship, I'd figure anything within it is mine now too."
Megumi clears her throat. "Uh...right, about that..."
Lady Syn says, "So you were just going to head out with nae supplies, nae fresh water, nae changes of clothing, and everyone's personal effects left in fae hands?"
Megumi blows out a sigh. "In hindsight, it'd have been a lot better if you'd actually stuck around for the discussions."
Lady Syn says, "I do my best discussions at the giving end of a blade."
Lady Syn says, "Now, before you sentence your crew to a slow death by dehydration, do you want to reconsider that order?"
Megumi says, "We'll find fresh water."
Ryoujal says, "Has anybody actually checked the stores?"
Megumi says, "I haven't. Whose console manages that?"
Ryoujal checks the Calzone, "Can I see the food and water stores?"
Lady Syn says, "Two get out of the brigs says no. If I'm wrong, I won't break out for two."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: I'm not sure I'd take that bet..."
The hologram of the ship shifts around a little confusedly as it attempts to quest around for food and water. "Water stores depleted. Leak detected in storage systems. Food cellars in ship cannot be scanned. Error in scanning systems."
Lady Syn smirks.
Ryoujal says, "We'll just have to look ourselves..."
Ryoujal goes down to take a peek in the food stores.
Orillian suggests, "There are varieties of elementals that can purify water, however I can't guarantee that we can attract them. Perhaps we should approach the fae?"
Ryoujal goes to have that peek and finds that most of the food cellars have been left open, thus all the food has spoiled. Other cellars are just completely empty. They have no supplies on the ship.
Megumi says, "Stop by the fae's island on the way. See if we can get our gear back."
Lady Syn lays course to pull up beside the old ship. Let the captain do the talking, she'll just properly board it and do what pirates do best -- pillage.
Ryoujal comes back, "Well I got good news and bad news. The good news is there is food on board. The bad news was that it was put on when this ship was first built."
To (Shorlixa, Lady Syn), Orillian pages: I'm starting to wonder if getting eaten by the island wouldn't be more preferable."
Megumi goes to treat with the fae. Or at least distract it long enough for Syn to get some bread and water yoinked.
Lady Syn says, "Less headaches that’s for sure."
The ship sails on, future more uncertain with the Solars realising that they have no supplies for the crew. The metaphorical gate has vanished, but when they sail out, it looks like a steaming Wyld maelstrom as opposed to the relatively calm room they had.
However, the maelstrom seems to part gently for them as several crates and bundles are dumped onto the deck. They will find that it contains all their supplies and belongings that were on the ship. Not a single thing is missing, besides the ship itself of course. There’s a simple message written on top of it all. “I didn’t need any of this and I’m sure you probably did. It was a pleasure milady. I am certain we will meet again. – Watcher of Endless Tides.”
At least the matter of supplies was settled easily. Armed with their new, if somewhat unusual ship, they sail smoothly through the Wyld and if any Wyld energies deform the ship, the mini-robots are surprisingly quick to fix the problem. Orillian might have felt a little redundant on the ship if not for how the robots are fixing the problem. Which is basically dressing the ship up to look more like a sandwich.
After a relatively smooth travel, with the only difficulties being stopping the mini-robots from attempting to repair everything they feel is slightly broken or disassembling and reassembling minor items into something completely different, they finally leave the Wyld.
