Corve

Beginning

Corve didn't have an easy life. It wasn't a hard one, either, truths be told. He was an average kid in Brume back in the day. His mother a merchant at the local market place, and his father a police officer in the local department. Corve... Corve was a strange one. He would skip school at times just to follow his father around the city, attempting to solve crimes before his old man did. Often times he did just that, he just never realized it until much, much later.

He grew up on Lucre, one of the filthiest and most derisive islands of Brume. But that was alright, he liked it there. Plenty of juvenile crime to stop. Even from a young age he'd prowl the rooftops on the weekends, finding hoodlums that wanted to cause other, weaker children pain and would descend upon them like a righteous avenger, slaughtering any hope of misbehavior with the bow his father had made for him. He was a childhood hero... at least in his eyes. Of course, his dreams of becoming a vigilante ended when he saved the life of one Masked Robin. She was a cute waif, who's hair would fall to cover half her face. He was as much in love with her as a thirteen year old boy could be of a slightly older (sixteen) woman. But when he descended upon her attacker that fateful night, all he found was her hand on his cheek in a stern, vicious slap. She wasn't being attacked...

He sacrificed all dreams of becoming anything special that night. He put his bow away, broke the arrow shafts he had left and decided never again to try to be a mysterious hero. Instead, he'd be a simple person... a policeman like his father. It would work out, his mother told him, and he simply nodded, dejected and resigned to what he saw as a life full of simplicity and lacking in any type of splendor. It wasn't until years later, when he was already a policeman himself, that he found out not all dreams are dashed so easily.

Exaltation

It was a bust. The entire operation had cracked under the heal of the criminal organization his father had been investigating. He was there when it happened. The arrow flew so straight that his eyes seemed to disbelieve even as they watched it slip between the cracks of his father's armor and into his ribs, piercing the older man's lungs. During the frantic ride to the hospital (and in between his father's complaints about being 'too old for this shit'), Corve got a message. It wasn't some dazzling light from on high, or a beautiful maiden that spoke in soothing tones about the wilderness within. It was his father, staring into the young man's eyes and speaking of wonders with just his gaze. The carriage was intercepted, the criminals ready to finish the job they started. They didn't expect to find an angry sun, shining with the fury of an invincible son.

He burst from the carriage with a brilliant aura about him, his unswerving fists and feet punishing the murderous fiends even as he plucked arrows from quivers and jabbed them into throats, and slitted ankles with the fury of his chopping blade. His anger was unmanageable, his ire incontainable. His father, dead behind him, floated into death with the knowledge that, perhaps, his son would be the hero he'd always dreamed he would be.

Currently

Corve continued to grow after his father's death and the sudden realization that he was more than just a man. He was a Chosen of the Unconquered Sun, a warrior of light in a sea of boundless darkness. Within a year he became inspector, and he once again took grasp of those reins he'd left so long ago. A few months after making it to inspector he found a small orphan girl in the streets. Her name was Sunshine Blossom. Finding compassion he long thought was gone, he took the young child with him and, after many months of bureaucratic paperwork, adopted her legally. Together, they raise a powerful pet and mount called Jaks.

Sunshine Blossom knows all about her father, and is an intelligent young girl who knows full well that to speak of his Exalted state is not the best ideas. People can find out about things for themselves, they don't need to be told, after all. Recently, the makeshift family moved after Corve's mother died of mysterious causes. They left Lucre behind and made go for another island. Fortunately, it wasn't Abundance... Corve now has to rebuild his connections within the criminal and legal underworlds; not an easy job, even for a Solar. He lives with his family in a small house in Luxury, and has yet to capture and terminate the fiends that killed his father, and find out what exactly happened to his mother.

But Inspector Corve, Night Caste of the Solar Exalted, has friends... powerful friends.

Description

Not overly tall, Inspector Corve cuts an imposing figure in the way he walks and moves. Standing just over six feet, his hair is cut short and runs wild atop his head, and he looks to be in his late thirties. He never really seems to be clean-shaved, and his skin is slightly tanned. Dark blue eyes stare out from underneath his hard-lined brows and a vicious rictus of a smile tends to slip into place when he see something he likes--for whatever reason. Callused hands and a raspy voice speak of how hard he works and of a slight tendency to drink (though nothing prejudicial to his work or his life, much less now that he is Exalted). When not working, at his side is usually Sunshine Blossom, a small, delicate-looking young girl around ten years old with long blond hair and almost predatory green eyes.

When at work, he wears shining orichalcum bracers that, combined with the presence of his overly-long buff jacket and the large, shining rifle that he carries on his back make him seem much more imposing that he would otherwise. Even amongst his new companions at the new precinct, he's known as a tough mother fucker who'll brook no disrespect--one only has to look at him to get that much.

Personality

Not thoroughly happy-go-luck, Corve projects an aura of power and invulnerability while at work and outside of his usual social territory. His gruff voice and rough demeanor make him hard to talk to without getting the sense that he's condescending or even sometimes downright offensive. Most of the time, he's a sarcastic bastard with a quick quip to say to anyone who's got something to hide... even if it's just him that thinks they're hiding something.

At home and with his friends, Corve is much the same, which gross changes. While he's still sarcastic and full of innocent remarks, his smiles are more genuine and less sinister. His guard down, he'll laugh and have a beer with a friend without thinking it twice, and can chat for hours about anything at all, as long as he gets the impression that his conversation partner is also enjoying it. Nothing gets to him like people who are false, and he's willing to beat the shit out of someone for being a silly false git.

With his daughter (adopted) he's an entirely different man. Caring, compassionate, and almost sickeningly sweet, one shouldn't be surprised if he is seen playing with his daughter. She seems to enjoy hanging on his back and pretending she's his rifle. It's caused more than one fit of argument between them, as she tends to yell "boom" in his ear. However, it's quite clear that he loves the kid, and would do anything for her.

Expanded Traits

Artifact (Judging Thunder): After days and days of argumentation and debate, Corve finally got Nellens Myrrh, a long time friend and fellow Solar, to make him a not-too-large orichalcum rifle. Two and a half feet in length and shining in its golden splendor, Judging Thunder is beautifully designed. Along with all the general modifications that make such weapons so powerful, Myrrh added a torso band that allows Corve to "sheath" the weapon onto his back simply by placing it in the right spot, and to take it out with a simple tug, making it readily accessible at all times. Additionaly, he installed a small lever that can be turned; its function is to silence the shots of the orichalcum weapon, making the characteristically loud thunder-like explosion of the firedust exploding to send the bullet on its way completely non-existent... this makes the rifle an excellent sniping tool.

Artifact (Suncoat): A parting gift from his old mentor before the old man took off for parts unknown, disappearing from Corve's life, the Suncoat is an orichalcum-based reinforced buff jacket custom made to drape down to almost ankle height. Extremely comfortable as well as protective, the Suncoat sports over two dozen pockets on the outside and the inside, ranging from large to extremely small and secretive. In addition to being a gleaming sun-yellow coat that protects him, the Suncoat adds power and conviction to the Inspectors charisma in certain situations. While wearing the coat, Corve can never fail (and much less botch) a Presence roll, if he would normally fail or botch he succeeds with 1 success.

Artifact (Hearthstone Bracers): Upon stumbling on a trafficking scam by some Terrestrial Outcastes and a few Dragon Kings who thought to smuggle Artifacts without paying due to the Brume Plutocracy, these Hearthstone Bracers were some of the objects that were confiscated by the police department. It was a cheap auction, especially since no one wanted to try to out bet the imposing lunatic with the golden buff jacket. He wears them most of the time, save when asleep.

Artifact (Valor's Fist): An Orichalcum Smashfist found in the Column Gallery of Abundance. It was in a niche on one of the columns dedicated to Corve's former self and marked with a Black Dot. Corve took it despite the dot. The Valor's Fist is a level 3 Artifact that adds 1 dot to the Strength of its owner if the owner's Valor is higher then 2. When used to make an attack that is enhanced by channeling Valor the Fist gains an additional 4 accuracy and 2 damage. If the owner's Valor is rated at 4 or above the Strength bonus increases to 2 and a Stamina bonus of 1 is conferred as well. With a Valor of 5 the owner never fails Valor rolls, always gathering at least 1 success.

The Valor's Fist has the stats of a normal orichalcum Smashfist and commits for 6 motes. It has a Hearthstone socket.

Familiar: Jaks is a raptor, albeit a large one. When Corve found him, he was but a small hatchling in the house of a murderer, who trained large raptors to kill from a small age whoever he put the correct prompts on. Upon finding the hatchling, Corve decided that instead of setting it out into the wild (or wherever the Wildlife Preservation Bureau would have put it) he took the small reptile and leased a place to take care of him. Jaks has grown to be extremely fond of Corve, and the feeling is mutual. The large (eight foot long) dinosaur functions as Corve's friend, companion, and ride. Faster and more self-sufficient than any horse, Jaks isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he's smart enough to find his way back home if left alone for too long or in immediate danger. He knows he should not risk himself for Corve unless the danger is too great. They make a formidable team.

Contacts: Due to the relatively recent move to the island of Luxury, Inspector Corve's contacts and connections have dwindled to an almost pathetic state (considering what his line of work is). However, this was to be expected, and the man isn't going to let it get him down. The small gathering of snitches and informants he's been able to drum up so far have let him solve quite a few cases, and he milks them for all their worth. However, he's always on the lookout for new connections that he can make, so as to have a large resource to pull from during emergencies.

Resources: He gains the wage of an Inspector. Even though mostly a bureaucratic and capitalistic nation, Brume is very strict on its laws, and compensates their law officials well enough so that they may live comfortably. Some of his income go for home things (feeding his child and familiar, etc), though he does save money for emergencies and personal costs (especially considering his adventuring ways).

Combo: Corve's anima envelopes him as he gains the reflexes to evade any attack, and the certainty to hit any opponent. Charms: Strike Without Effort, Heart-Seeking Missile, Seven Shadows Evasion, Reed in the Wind.
