Black Void Priest Style

by CrownedSun

"In the end, all will be the Dead Gods and the neverending Void. Then there will be naught but the void. Only then will Creation know peace."\\ -- from the Seven Proscribed Sutras of the Void

The Trinity of the Abyss, as it is known by some of the Deathlords, is a mystical journey. It begins in the killing fields and shadowlands, with the secrets of the Hungry Ghost Style. It descends into the Underworld, gathering in the gray and silver city of Stygia -- the mysteries of the Restless Shade Style. The enlightenment of the void does not end there. Down the venenous stair, into the black maze of the Labryinth, one can begin to learn the final secrets of the Void. The guardians of those secrets, priests of the dead gods, the Nephwracks, are the key to the final style of the Abyssal Trinity. Black Void Priest Stylists are quite rare, and as of yet none have shown themselves in Creation. Most lurk in the underworld, or in the depths of the Labryinth, awaiting their time. That time is fast approaching; soon they will come, and Creation will know the tread of the Black Void Priests just as Stygia knelt before the tread of the Nephwracks.

The Black Void Priest style is deeply introspective, relying on an understanding of Oblivion and the Void. Stylists often undergo long harrowings, seeking to understand the Dead Gods and the forbidden mysteries of the Labryinth. The Nephwracks themselves know of the art, and most welcome any stylist who comes before them -- many abyssals eager to master this style spend months or years in the service of the Void Priests.

You have to have at least Whispers 1 to learn this Style.

Note, this is an advanced Celestial Style. The beginning charms for this style will start at Essence 1-2. The Form will be at Essence 3. Post-Form will be 4-5. The Ultimate will be Essence 6. Even so, this isn't Sidereal level -- but it pushes the boundaries, and was constructed by the Deathlords themselves. In particular, I see this style as the creation of Biship of the Chalcedony Thurible.

charm ideas
Pre-Form Student Charms

  • Mortwight Charm. Effects??
    • A basic, and nasty, oblivion-based attack. I picture something that involves a lot of black-light, and can have bad side-effects.\\
  • Disciple of the Abyss charm. Effects??
    • Temporarily give someone Whispers, giving them numerous penalities. It can leave some lasting, perhaps maddening, insight behind as well.

Form Charm

  • Nephwrack form. You adopt the dark majesty of the void, their eyes becoming empty black pits. Effects??

Post-Form Charms

  • A charm that allows one to harness some of the confusion and maziness of the Labryinth, subtracting dice from an opponents roll to follow you.
    • Not sure. Something Labryinth-y, since that's what this tree is about...
      • You take advantage of the way time, space and distance can flow in the Labryinth. This is an extra action charm, that allows you to attack multiple people within a given radius, in a flickering teleportation like way that's hard to defend against.
  • You grow nasty spectral talons, which drain willpower with a successful hit and are just meeeean. More speed (length) than Rate.
    • Some kind of "spectral army" type charm, perhaps relating to spilled blood or shadows or something? It should be a scene-long charm, and allow you to create some nifty minions.
      • You adopt some of the endless death and pain of the Hekatonkhire, gaining resistance to damage and a basic inability to die for one turn. This should have some negative side-effects, however, probably "wound penalities" or something:D
  • You can add your Whispers rating to your Martial Arts rolls for the rest of the scene!
    • A defensive charm, that lets you hear the whispers in the Void of coming mortality, presaging violence against his form. I'm thinking this might provide a free reflexive Martial Arts defense.
      • You infect someone with a Whisper of the Void. This works on ghosts AND living folk, and can turn humans into a kind of living spectre. Though such unfortunates seldom live very long. This can be resisted, and is an attack, but is still pretty nasty.

Ultimate Charm

  • A "Well of the Void" charm. Maybe a perfectly damaging attack that, if it hits, can destroy anything? Or perhaps a perfect attack that harnesses the inevitably of Oblivion; you just CAN'T miss. In flavor text if not effect, anyway. Something weird:D

Comments

For some reason, Consuming Hand of the Abyss seems appropriate for the pinnacle Charm.

The teleport Charm could be Evanescent Evasion Method, or Twisted Reality Technique.
