Lunar Defensive Charms by CrownedSun

Defensive I

Tiger Paw Disarm

 Cost: 2 motes
 Duration: Instant
 Type: Reflexive
 Minimum Strength: 2
 Minimum Essence: 1
 Prerequisite Charms: None

After making a successful parry roll (which this charm does not give the Lunar) that reduces an opponents attack to zero successes, a Lunar may active this charm. The opponent must immediately make a Wits + (the relevant Combat ability), with a difficulty equal to the number of extra successes the Lunar had on the parry attempt. If he fails this roll, he looses his weapon, the Lunar batting it a number of yards away equal to his Strength. If the Lunar wishes, he may choose where the weapon lands within the range given -- over a cliff, into a river, etc.
This charm takes the place of Steel Paw Style in the Lunar Defensive I tree.

Steel Paw Style (Revised)

 Cost: None
 Duration: Permanent
 Type: Special
 Minimum Stamina: 3
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: Tiger Paw Disarm

A Lunar with this charm can parry lethal attacks barehanded without the use of a stunt. In addition, his hands can become hard and difficult to injure at his will, enabling him to punch through glass, ram his hand at full strength against stone, or otherwise inflict whatever punishment he might wish without worrying about broken bones or severe lacerations. The Lunar gains +Essence dice on any roll related to his grip, including rolls to resist to resist being disarmed in combat.

Two Blades Technique

 Cost: 3 motes
 Duration: One scene
 Type: Reflexive
 Minimum Wits: 3
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: Golden Tiger Block

This charm allows the Lunar to fully master the art of fighting defensively with two weapons, reacting to the developing battle with skill and finesse so quick that it looks almost as if the Lunar was simultaneously aware of everything happening upon the field of battle. Once activated, the Lunar must note one of his weapons as "defensive" and the other as "offensive". He gains full rate for both weapons, and split his action prior to his initiative as long as he only takes defensive actions prior to his initiative. Note that this charm works for two claws as easily as for two swords.

Example: A Lunar with this charm is fighting with a Straight Sword, and a Fighting Chain. He nominates the Straight Sword as his offensive weapon, and the Fighting Chain as his defensive weapon. After loosing initiative on the first turn and getting attacked, he decides to split his dice pool so that he can defend himself. He decides to take five actions; three defenses and two attacks. Normally he would be unable to do this, as both of his weapons have a rate of 3, but since he is using each weapons rate separately he hasn't violated either weapons rate. He cannot take his tw offensive actions until his actual turn, however, though he can use his defensive actions whenever he needs to.

Defensive II

Forewarned Evasion Technique

 Cost: 3 motes
 Duration: Instant
 Type: Reflexive
 Minimum Perception: 4
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: Bowing Reed Technique

Like a fly, the Lunar is nimble and constantly aware, able to duck and slide out of the way of attacks that would surely hit mortal men. The Lunar may dodge an attack with his full Dexterity + Dodge + Essence pool. Forewarned Evasion Technique may not be used in any Combos that contain extra action Charms. This charm is not effective against attacks the character is not aware of.

Defensive III

Hide-Toughening Essence

 Cost: 1 mote per point
 Duration: One scene
 Type: Simple
 Minimum Stamina: 2
 Minimum Essence: 1
 Prerequisite Charms: None

When using this Charm, the Lunar thickens and strengthen's his skin and makes his bones stronger and more resistant to breaking or shattering. While there are few outward effects of this charm, this charm can have an impressive effect on the Lunar's ability to withstand damage either in human or other forms. Every mote of essence commited to this charm adds one to the character's Stamina for the purpose of resisting damage alone. Thus a character with Stamina 5 who spends 5 motes on this charm gains a Bashing soak of 10, and a Lethal Soak of 5. In addition, any Stamina-related rolls that directly involve resisting damage would operate as if the character had a Stamina of 10. These changes last for the rest of the scene, and the character cannot more than double his Stamina when using this charm. The soak added by this charm is considered natural for all purposes, and inflicts no limitations on the Lunar's overall soak score (though the limitations imposed by any Gifts or other Charms the character might have still apply). This charm stacks with the use of armor.

Armor-Forming Technique

 Cost: 6 motes, 1 willpower
 Duration: One scene
 Type: Simple
 Minimum Stamina: 3
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: Hide-Toughening Essence

The Lunar creates bony plates just under his skin, hides vital organs behind multiple layers of toughened skin and hard bone, and laces all his bones with trace amounts of Moonsilver making then flexible and yet inhumanly strong. These defenses allow the Lunar to bolster his resistance to even the most deadly of damage, and provide numerous benefits. First, the Lunar uses his full Stamina (including any boost from Hide-Toughening Essence) to soak lethal damage if he was not already doing so. Second, the Lunar gains a hardness score equal to his Essence rating and can roll Stamina + Resistance at difficulty 1 to ignore any non-perfect effect that inflicts permanent harm on his body or form. The Lunar is considered to be wearing armor for the purposes of attacks that are less effective against armor, but does not actually have an armor-based soak from the use of this charm. Lastly, the Lunar reduces minimum damage to one for the remainder of the scene -- attacks that pierce his soak only roll a single die, rather than an amount equal to the attackers Essence. This charm stacks with the use of armor.

Creator Notes

Steel Paw Style: I just gave up trying to 'redefine' this, and turned it into what I thought it should be. Which required me to make another root charm, which I did:) I'm very happy with these two changes, myself.

Forewarned Evasion Technique: The possibility for this charm is referenced under Unmoving Bear Defense, where it notes that the charm can be used in charms that allow the Lunar to dodge with his full dice pool. An excellent combo, thus, for many Lunars would be Forewarned Evasion, Unmoving Bear Defense, and Bending Before the Storm (10xp).
