External Complications

These actions are based around the way that events dog the character, and allow them to regain Kismet by reaffirming destiny.

Always Broke

Requirements: Resources 3

Even though the character has money in theory, she rarely has it in pracitce. Once per story, the player may declare that the character has 'gone bust'. She then regains 1 Kismet at the end of every session, until the story ends. For the duration of the story, the character's Resources are reduced to 1 if she has Resources 3 or 4, or to 2 if she has Resources 5 or better. It is up to the player how she loses her money.

Challenger

Requirements: Any Ability at 4

The character's prowess is legendary. People come from miles around to compete against her, and they won't take no for an answer. Once per story, the player may declare that a challenger has come. The challenger will attempt to overcome the character, and it is up to the ST what methods they use. The challenge will be tied to the Ability chosen as a requirement and what the character is famous for. The character regains her Permanent Kismet in Kismet at the start of the challenge.

Damsel In Distress

Requirements: Allies 1 or Followers 1

The character's friends and loved ones get put in danger constantly. Once per story, the player may declare one of her allies or followers to have been kidnapped as part of an ongoing plot. The character then regains up to her permanent Kismet in Kismet. The kidnapped people are not guaranteed to survive, but usually will.

Mistaken Identity

Requirements: None

There is someone out there who looks like the character, and it's not good. Once per session, the player may declare that her character has been mistaken by someone hostile or unfriendly. She immediately regains 1 Kismet, 2 if the situation is particularly serious.

Nemesis

Requirements: None

The character has a rival or enemy who dogs her every step. Once per story, upon learning that her rival or nemesis is involved in a current plot, the character may regain up to her permanent Kismet in Kismet.

Suddenly, Ninja!

Requirements: None

For some reason, groups of people just like to attack the character. Once per story, the player may declare a surprise attack against her by an unknown group of assailants, whom the Storyteller decides the details of - these should be assailants that can be beaten without a serious chance of death, but some risk should exist. The character immediately regains her Permanent Kismet worth of Kismet. It is up to the Storyteller whether this is a random event or part of the plot.

Unlucky

Requirements: None

Destiny just doesn't like the character. Once per session, the player of the character may determine a 2 or 3-pt Kismet alteration that causes complications for her instead of resolving them. She then gains 1 Kismet. As usual, the Storyteller may veto a specific change.
