Back to the Cometary Exalts

Traits

Anima Banner

The anima banners of the Cometary Exalts blaze into life with terrifying speed, only to gutter out equally quickly. The anima banners of the Cometary Exalted follow normal rules, with the following changes based on the chart below:

  • 1-2 Motes Of Peripheral Essence: The character's caste mark begins to glitter on their forehead, shifting its angles in different directions. Anyone observing the character may make a Perception + Awareness roll at standard difficulty in order to notice the caste mark. This does not affect stealth. At the end of the scene, the anima effect fades completely.
  • 3-5 Motes Of Peripheral Essence: Light bursts forth from the character's caste mark, flickering and shining white, clearly visible through objects placed over it. Magical Stealth fails, and mundane stealth is at +2 difficulty. The effect fades down to 2 motes at the end of the scene.
  • 6-7 Motes Of Peripheral Essence: White light shines from the character's skin, and patterns of light chase themselves across him. Her caste mark shines clearly, and stealth is impossible. If the character spends no peripheral Essence for a full minute, her anima banner fades down to the 5 mote level.
  • 8-10 Motes Of Peripheral Essence: The character is visible for miles, streaks of light flying from her body to arc across the sky like a meteor shower. Anyone who wishes to track her down will not find it difficult to do so. Fortunately, this effect fades quickly. If the character spends no peripheral Essence for a full action, this level drops back down to 7 motes.
  • 11+ Motes Of Peripheral Essence: Cometaries at this level are outlined by images of a blazing comet, which stretches to the sky and is visible by anyone who can see the sky from that location as a blazing omen - typically, this means that the anima can be seen for several dozen miles at least, although in order to have any real chance of figuring the origin point beyond a general direction, viewers must be within a few miles. By the end of the tick, the comet has blazed into the sky, and the character's anima drops back down to the 10 mote level - although more Essence will send a second comet up after the first.
