Throwing Gauntlet
Artefact •• (Terrestrial rank)
This powerful artefact weapon appears, at first glance, to merely be an ornate vambrace, with two gold inlaid plates (one 15” long and 4” wide with a pronounced curve down the long axis, the other a rough trapezoid 4” in height and width). The plates are strapped together with fine leather and there is a series of five straps of varying length, each with a fine but unadorned gold ring at the end.
A character can wear it by sliding the fingers of his right hand into the rings, and then strapping the long plate down with buckles just above the wrist and below the elbow. Once worn there is no restriction of movement, but the full power of the artefact will not be revealed until an Exalt attunes to it.
Once this has been done, merely by making a throwing movement with his right hand, as if throwing a knife, a dart of pure Essence will be conjured by the gauntlet and will hurtle towards the selected target of the Exalt’s attack. The Exalt can decide whether to inflict Bashing or Lethal damage, and the darts dissipate back into diffuse Essence mere seconds after striking their target (or missing).
For a cost of two motes, the Exalt can create a far more powerful bolt of Essence, which will last for the scene, smouldering darkly before dissipating. Each of these charged bolts is approximately 8” in length, noticeably warm to the touch, and about as strong as a steel bar of equivalent size. The uses that these can be put to are left as an exercise for the Exalt.
Both the darts and the bolts created by the throwing gauntlet are explicitly compatible with all Thrown Charms. However, Charms such as Cascade of Cutting Terror which state that a physical copy of the weapon in question need not be to hand can only use the increased values of the charged bolt if the Exalt pays the two mote cost for their creation.
The Throwing Gauntlet costs four committed motes of Essence to attune and has a setting for a single hearthstone at the centre of the plate that covers the back of the hand.
