Character Creation

Characters are 2nd Edition Dragon-Blooded. Character Creation will follow the following rules:

1) Motivation: Pick something cool? During the chronicle, I will allow one free upgrade of a Motivation from something small-scale to something larger-scale along the same track. Further changes will require 1 XP as usual.

2) Attributes: Characters have 7/6/4 as usual for Dragon-Blooded.

3) Abilities: Characters begin play with 32 Ability dots; 10 of these must be in Caste or Favoured Abilities, and all Favoured Abilities must be rated at least 1. All characters must have the following: Investigation 1, Lore 2, War 2, one of Archery, Martial Arts, or Melee at 2 with the others at 1, Presence 2, Performance 1, and Occult 1. This represents the training that is required of the area's Exalts.

In addition, characters must choose one of Ujiro's three training paths. As soldiers, characters must have either Archery, Martial Arts, or Melee 3. As savants, characters must have either Bureaucracy, Lore, or Occult 3. As craftsmen, characters must have a Crafts at 3. Characters need not hold firmly to these paths; some Exalts might divide time between practicing swordscrafting and running patrols, while others might spend as little time as possible doing any of these things.

4) Backgrounds: This is the most restrictive area. Characters all begin play with Backing 1 [Scarlet Haven], and Resources 2. In addition, they receive 6 extra dots of Backgrounds.
Characters may buy Contacts up to 1, in which case their area is [Scarlet Haven].
Characters may buy the following Backgrounds up to 2: Backing [Scarlet Haven], Influence [Scarlet Haven]
Characters may buy the following Backgrounds up to 3: Command, Family, Followers, Resources
Characters may buy the following Backgrounds up to 5 (using bonus points, as usual): Allies, Familiar, Henchmen, Mentor

Two other Backgrounds deserve special mention: Artifact and Breeding.

Artifact: Due to the relative scarcity of artifacts in the area - all of them were brought in with Ujiro - characters who purchase the Artifact background may only do so once, dividing the points amongst their Artifacts (for example, a character who purchases Artifact 4 may buy a daiklave and hearthstone bracers).

Breeding: The area's breeding has withered rapidly under the mass breeding projects that Ujiro enacted. Characters may buy Breeding up to 2 without bonus points. Breeding 3 requires 2 bonus points, while Breeding 4 requires a further 3 points, and Breeding 5 is not allowed.

5) Charms: Characters begin play with seven Charms. One character may choose to begin play as an Immaculate; three of her Charms are traded for two Initiation Charms, and she may spend any or all of her other four on Charms of the Earth Dragon Style only. No other Dragon Path is available in the area. In addition, any character may begin play with Terrestrial Circle Sorcery; they do not have to purchase Ragara Valos as a Mentor, but if they do not, they will have to decide what caused their falling-out with him. Purchasing Terrestrial Circle Sorcery provides the character with Emerald Countermagic for free.

6) Virtues, Willpower, and Essence: Characters begin with 5 Virtue dots, as normal. Willpower is the sum of their two highest Virtues, and Essence begins at 2. Characters may not begin with Essence higher than 3, even with bonus points and Flaws.

7) The rest: The final stages are calculated normally.

Questions

To clarify, you're basically using the same rules for artifact as presented in the Solar core. I.E. Each dot in the background nets you one dot worth of artifact, correct? Also, I note you've kept Contacts as an available background. Who exactly are the player's contacting with this background?- Ambisinister

Looking over, you have made a good point; Contacts should really be limited to 1 (Scarlet Haven) without a seriously good backstory for why you have, I dunno, contacts among the fair folk or something. Regarding Artifact, it is the same as in the 1E Solar Core; in 2E, Solars are allowed to buy each artifact as a seperate Background, allowing for multiple small artifacts to be bought for cheaper. - FrivYeti
