Elemental Beacon Understanding
Cost: 2 motes per discount, 1 Willpower Minimums: Lore 5, Essence 4 Type: Simple Keywords: Combo-Basic, Obvious Duration: One Scene Prerequisite Charms: Elemental Burst Technique
The Elemental Bolt is the simplest expression of the elemental might of the Dragon-Blooded, but there are times when it is insufficient for the enemies that a Terrestrial might face. With this Charm, a Dragon-Blood may gather elemental Essence around herself, enabling her to use Bolts with far more frequency.
When the character activates this Charm, elemental Essence gathers around her, as though her anima banner were at the 11-15 mote level; this does not trigger the character's automatic anima ability or actually add to her peripheral banner beyond the normal amount, and will cut off completely when the Charm ends. For every two motes spent, the character receives a 1-mote discount on her uses of Elemental Bolt or Elemental Burst, to a minimum of 1 mote per use of the Charms. This discount applies after Charm caps have been applied (so a character with 6 motes committed and a Stamina of 4 could still only create an 8L Elemental Bolt). Whenever the character uses Elemental Bolt or Elemental Burst through this Charm, the Essence for it draws out of their anima, making it clear that they have a nigh-on infinite supply of power to draw from.
At Essence 5, this Charm upgrades automatically to allow the character to reduce the cost of Elemental Bolt to 0.
Elemental Conflagration Technique
Cost: None Minimums: Lore 5, Essence 4 Type: Special Keywords: None Duration: Permanent Prerequisite Charms: Elemental Burst Technique
The Elemental Bolt is powerful, but its limited uses are quickly apparant to the skillful Terrestrial. This Charm helps to minimize that problem. When this Charm is purchased, it permanent alters Elemental Bolt and Elemental Burst by allowing them to be part of a flurry, despite their Simple nature. It also reduces their Speed to 5. The character's Elemental Bolt and Elemental Burst are considered to be Rate 3 if they are flurried only with other Bolts or Bursts and Rate 1 otherwise. Finally, the rate of the two Charms does not stack - a character could use three Elemental Bolts, two Bolts and a Burst, and so on, but not two Bolts and two Bursts.
Comments
Friv - while I love these charms, I do worry that the first one gives something to DB's that they shouldn't have: mote efficiency. I might note that there's a minimum of 1m per shot, or some such, just to keep a DB from being able to just keep blasting their way through a wall for an hour-and-a-half. Things like infinite mastery (which this closely resembles) are Solar's bag, as DB's are routinely limited in their 'scene long' things, and really are meant to be nickel and dimed out of motes, at least the way I read their charms. -- GreenLantern, trying to keep the little man down
- As a second opinion: The way I read DBs, they should be able to get the same things as Celestials... eventually. It should take Ability and Essence levels of around 2 dots higher for a DB to get the same effect as a Solar - see Bulwark Stance versus Unassailable Body of (Element) Style. Thus, I think Elemental Beacon Understanding should require Essence 5. - IanPrice, letting the little man grow, but not as fast.
- I think I will balance out those two effects. In hindsight, I mostly agree. Therefore, I'm going to bump up the Essence requirement for Beacon to 4, and allow it full efficiency only at Essence 5. - FrivYeti
- Sounds reasonable - I'll take that. -- GreenLantern, noting that this is an amenable solution
Ian: Isnt that somewhat stranbge comparison? As far as can tell those charms have very diffrent costs and do VERY diffrent things. -Azurelight
- Okay, well... I haven't read Manual of Exalted Power: Dragon Blooded yet. The original Unassailable Body of Flame from AB: Fire was a turn-long reflexive dodge, and the original Bulwark Stance was a turn-long reflexive parry. I assumed that the new version would be somewhat similar when making my comparison. - IanPrice
AHAA...that explains it. the new Unassailable Body of Flame" is a perfect dodge that does not trump applicability and has alot of other limitations, for 1wp, 3 motes. -very diffrent from the old one. -Azurelight
