The Living Flame
The Dojo:
Located in the soutwest reaches of Varsi, Home of the famed Enduring Oak, The Living Flame dojo is where those truly dedicated to the ideas of life come to train in The Golden Janissary Style. Also the name of the small inner circle of students (currently 10) whom have transcended their mortal limits and have been initiated into supernatural martial arts to combat the forces of Death.
Sifu: Enduring Oak
Favored Style: Golden Janissary
Organization
The Living Flame is divided into two groups, the Inner and Outer Circle.
The Outer Circle
Comprised of the many novices and initiates who train and practice the mundane martial arts in the Dojo, members of the Outer Circle have not yet been initiated into the supernatural martial arts, and are unaware of their Sifu's status as a member the Exalted. All of the Outer Circle live within Varsi proper.
The Inner Circle (a.k.a. The Living Flame)
Comprised of those talented and trustworthy enough to train in the supernatural martial arts, the Inner Circle is populated by those who have impressed Oak with both their skill in the mortal martial arts, and the choice to follow the path of rightousness. Those of the Outer Circle who have possessed these traits were initiated in supernatural martial arts through the use of Soul-Enlightening Benefience by Oak himself. Each of these students are aware of Oak's status as a Solar Exalt, and each follow the ideals set forth by the Unconquered Sun. Most of these students reside with the Dojo proper. Oak has taken members of this circle on missions against the forces of death, exterminating ghosts and other undead (and on one occasion a demon) wherever he hears about them.
Inner Circle: Notable members
Sifus: Responsible for training all members of the dojo, including members of the Outer Circle.
Talon: Former slave and first of the Inner Circle. Talon was the first initiated into the supernatural martial arts by Oak, and functions is the effective head of the dojo while Oak is away. 2nd only to Oak in use of the Golden Janissary Style. Talon the bronze skin and appearance demonstrating his Southern lineage.
Saffron Blade: Blade is the most outspoken member of the Inner Circle. Born in a region of the Hundred Kingdoms under sway of Immaculate Order, Blade will decries his actions as those of the Anathema to the other members of the Inner Circle, and to Oak himself. She doesn't believe her accusations, even secretly wishes for Solar Exaltation, but feels it's important to remind Oak (& the others) that they all tread on dangerous ground. A very athletic and powerful woman, Blade tries her best to perfect her martial art, and often challenges Talon to duels.
Iselsi Kefara: Kefara and her brother are both the illegimate offspring of Iselsi Dromar (originally from Thorns). Kefara's and her brother had been sent to live with relatives in Varsi before Thorns was conquered, and have never met their father. Kefara was forbidden by her mother to learn how to defend herself, and so has defied her when she sought training from The Living Flame.
Intelligence: Investigate local disturbances and stories to determine whether or not deployment of the Living Flame is necessary.
Ubiquitious Palm: Palm is the only member of the circle NOT initiated into supernatural by Oak himself; instead claiming to have been enlightened by exposure to the Wyld. Always secretive about his past, Palm studied martial arts under a few mentors, but Oak is the one that's managed to keep him the longest. He's been exposed to a few other styles, and knows a fair bit more about the martial arts world than others.
Soaring Ash: Ash was a mortal spy for the a fallen land in the Hundrend Kingdoms. After his homeland fell, he was exposed and sentenced to death. Oak rescued him, and he vowed to return the favor. Of the Inner Circle, he's the least interested in the advancement of his martial arts, but instead focuses on the occult & other "arts." Despite this, he's been an invaluable asset to the dojo. Ash & Palm work very closely.
Equipment Masters: Responsible for maintance of all equipment & weapons available on the grounds.
Rokai: Former guard of Varsi, Rokai left the employ of the city goverment after he was almost killed by a mercenary from Nexus, and came to the dojo in an attempt to better his skills. Rokai is a tall man with dark skin & impressive build who speaks to most people like he's known them his entire life.
Olar Neha: Former theif & current amnesiac, Neha has no idea who he is or how he ended up living in the gutters of Varsi, but he knows Oak saved his life from the same mercenary that almost killed Rokai. All he remembers of his past is his name, and seems to have been some sort of armsman or guildsman, and he has an uncanny knack for his current trade.
Miscellaneous
Charging Rhino (Bookkeeping): Very detailed-orientated individual who handles both the student roster (with apparent levels of skill), and finances when needed. Like Oak, Rhino was once at hot-headed individual. Joining the dojo eventually cooled his temper, after which he discovered his talent for record keeping. Physically Rhino is an incredibly large man very reminicent of his name.
Iselsi Lydus (Psychology): Lydus originally vowed never to speak to his sister again for defying their mother, but all that changed when Kefara convinced him to meet with Oak. The newest member of the Inner Circle, Lydus has volunteered for the task of screening the students for potential recruits to the true Living Flame. Both him and his sister keep their family name secret to those outside of the Inner Circle.
Hill (Jack of all Trades): Also from Namutae, Hill is a rather ordinary looking man in his mid 20s. Hill worked odd jobs for most of his life, and has continued this trend in The Living Flame. Hill subs for and understands the chores of all the Inner Circle, and often does so to much aclaim. He's particularly proficient at training the younger members of the Outer Circle to basics of the martial arts.
Layout
Located in the southwest reaches of Varsi, the Living Flame is a moderately sized dojo with room for both full- and part-time students. The walled compound consists of 2 small buildings and a moderate sized open area.
Training Grounds: The first thing visitors see upon entering through the front gates, the training ground is even level field flanked by gardens. Most of the field has light but durable grass, with some areas of bare earth for specific exercises. A majority of a student's training takes place in this area.
Living Quarters: The smallest of the two buildings, the Living Quarters consist of 6 triple occupancy rooms and 9 double occupancy rooms. Members are discouraged from having single quarters at this time. Virtually all of the occupied rooms are being used by the Inner Circle, though temporary housing (1 - 3 days) are possible for members of the Outer Circle.
Dojo: Actually two connected buildings, the Dojo proper consists of one building of 3 floors for members of the Outer Circle (sometimes called the Junior Dojo). The second building consists of 2 large floors specialized for use by the Inner Circle, weapon storage, a record office, and a temple to the Unconquered Sun on the top floor. Members of the Outer Circle are usually restricted from most areas of the 2nd and 3rd floors for obvious reasons.
