− | It's noontime, and needless to say the alchemists and scientists haven't wasted much time in hauling in the massive behemoth carcass and stripping it clean on a drydock. Nothing remained after they were done, except for the undamaged meat, which was tested for safety... and promptly distributed to the public. The smell of roasted, grilled and cooked shark permeates the docks and the city proper, and it is a good smell.

− | In fact, West himself has a fairly large portion of it, and is making jerky with the majority. The rest, already cooked, is being dealt with by the crew as they go about cleaning up and fixing the Serpent. It's... odd to seem them so calm, as sharks have long since detected the scent of blood and are practically destroying all the remnants of faerie flesh in the waters, making it churn all over.
| |
− | | |
− | ... needless to say, fishing's not an option today, so the docks are calm. West, in-between bites of lightly-herbed behemoth (it's got just a touch of toughness, like octopus), goes about seasoning his eventual jerky, humming some tune.
| |
− | | |
− | Poorly.

− | "You know, I honestly didn't think behemoths would be so tasty." Rio steps into the ship, with a small bag over her shoulder, and... brand new clothes, the ones she was wearing got completely ruined. Same type of bandanna though.
| |
− | | |
− | "You're not the only one who's surprised, kiddo." West waves a chunk before popping it into his mouth. "I guess even wyld things play by the rules, y'know?"
| |
− | | |
− | "Wyld beasts that eat ships for breakfast are delicious. Check." Rio steps towards West. "How much did you get there?"
| |
− | | |
− | <West> About ten pounds for myself... there was a bunch more for the ship proper, and Cook's already salted the rest for travel. I imagine we're gonna be on the move soon, anyway.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Pretty soon, I guess... after we hear what the Roseblack wants to say. Here's to hope it's something nice.
| |
− | | |
− | West snorts. "The day I hear something nice <b>and</b> honest from a Dragon is the day I grow breasts."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Hey, I bet there is a nice dragon-bloded... somewhere.
| |
− | | |
− | Rio sighs, and sits against the railing, leaning back. "... say, West?"
| |
− | | |
− | <West> Yah?
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> I think you had a story to tell me.
| |
− | | |
− | West starts to put the fish strips into a surprisingly clean wooden chest atop bamboo racks. "Oh yeah!" West chuckles. "It never crossed my mind, but... I met one like you a long time ago. Ironically, another passenger. Might wanna siddown, this could take a while."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> ... I am. So you can start.
| |
− | | |
− | <West> I was a little shit working docks. Couldn't have been older than... shit. Thirteen? Fourteen? I was a kid, and life on the seas was an adventure. Back then, I helped with a chartered boat some Dynast owned. She was the first woman I'd ever had a crush on.
| |
− | | |
− | Rio chuckles softly, but leans back and listens
| |
− | | |
− | "I mean, seriously! She was a looker! Tall, blonde hair, and her skin has this oddly appealing bluish shade. Probably... air? Water? Anyway, I spent my worktime keeping things in order and my offtime staring at her tits." West closes the box before sitting on it. "It was easy work, and I loved it."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> I bet!
| |
− | | |
− | "Well! One day, we stopped off at... shit, Eagle's Launch. Not for long, although I really wanted to have some leave in the Realm. But we were picking up a bunch of guys... armor, weapons, everything. A couple of monks, too. Figured out later it was a Wyld Hunt group, and a huge one." West frowns. "... that reminds me. What happens if we run into onea those ourselves?"
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> We'll burn that bridge when we get down to it... go on!
| |
− | | |
− | <West> Right, right. Wyld Hunt. Turns out they were sailing due West for some kinda trouble. Funny shit, that... the lady had one of those scary-fast First Age vessels, though... didn't need sails, but they kept 'em anyway. We would've gotten to this island in a week or two.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> ... I want one of those.
| |
− | | |
− | "I betcha do." West smirks, but the smirk fades. "Three days in, we kinda hit a little snag, you see."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Hmm?
| |
− | | |
− | <West> One of the monks got all shiny like you did when the Lintha came. And fought like a goddamn demon. I've never seen anyone move like that in my life... like he was some kinda bear, smacking people around.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> ... one of the monks? ... as in, one of the mortals that came in the ship with the Hunt?
| |
− | | |
− | <West> Yeeeeup. Only he wasn't a mortal, turns out. They got tricked something fierce, and the entire goddamn shipload of 'em were down in about five minutes. Guy didn't kill any of 'em, though.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> ... huh... what happened then?
| |
− | | |
− | "He looked at me." West looks like he's really remembering something important. "He didn't touch a single shiphand, or even the Blooded lady. But he looked at me, and I remember saying this like it was yesterday..."
| |
− | | |
− | Rio blinks.
| |
− | | |
− | <West> .... he said, "Know you that you have seen the unfettered might of the Sun Invincible." And then he leapt into the ocean and swam off like a shot.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Huh... and the Hunt?
| |
− | | |
− | <West> They were out for a bit... but when they came to, they turned us right back around and made us swear to not tell anyone what had happened. On pain of death. Even the Blooded lady.
| |
− | | |
− | "Aaah, pride." Rio pauses for a couple of seconds, and then cups her chin in a hand... striking a pose. "Know you that you have seen the unfettered might of the Sun Invincible... heehee."
| |
− | | |
− | <West> ... it fits you, girl.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Yeah, I'll just practice it until I can say it without breaking into a fit of giggles.
| |
− | | |
− | West flashes a smile, stands, and walks over to Rio. "I've seen alot, and I got the scars to prove it. And I admit that I do listen to the whole Immaculate thing from time to time. But... I believe in you, girl. You're something special."
| |
− | | |
− | Rio hops to her feet. "... thanks, West. That means a lot."
| |
− | | |
− | "It damn well better! Besides, I know I can eye you up and not earn a slap. Too fast, anyway." West laughs a bit, shaking his head. "But that's what being a dirty old sailor gets you nowadays."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Sorry old man. If you DID grow breasts and got a hundred years younger, well, who knows?
| |
− | | |
− | "BAH!" West breaks into a more amused laugh, looking quite his age allovasudden.
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> ... so, would you happen to have some of that behemoth left? Feeling peckish now.
| |
− | | |
− | West hands over a few grilled slices, wrapped in brown parchment. "Kinda spicy, but it's good stuff. Have a go, Captain."
| |
− | | |
− | <Rio> Thank ya.
