Curse of the Burning Blade
(Glamour sorcery Artifact level 3 Desire Circle Spell)
This glamour was first fashioned by the enchantress Velador who was once known as the witch queen of the north and who ruled the house hold of amethyst. Hers were a cruel and vicious people even by the standards of that cold and barren land and they raided frequently harvesting thousands of souls and devastating entire townships in just a few years. In time they became a sufficient annoyance for several of the coastal city states to band together in a loose alliance with the guild. Armed with fine iron weapons supplied by the merchant princes a mercenary army marched on the freehold indent on its destruction.
At first the fae suffered several crushing defeats at the hands of crusading forces. The dream warriors crumbling to dust under the caress of the invaders cursed weapons. These failures were sufficient to draw Velador away from her entertainments and, after executing several of her generals for their incompetence, she took the field herself.
The next battle was to go very differently. The human invaders gathered on the borders of the amethyst freehold their massed ranks bristling with spears of cold wrought iron. The remains of the fairy host rode out to meet them in a myriad of exotic forms. Velador herself stood atop her glacial palace in a spire of sculpted ice surrounded by her Cataphractoi elite guard. As the two forces below rushed towards each other she raised her delicate hands above her bowed head and summoned forth the burning curse. A sphere of pale azure fire sprang into life between her outstretched fingers, stepping back she left the orb hanging in mid air burning like a beacon in the northern twilight.
With a whispered word from the queens rouged lips the sphere shattered thousands of streamers of flame hurtling down from the tower, racing over the heads of the advancing host and screaming down on the startled humans. Each fragment of fire plunged into a weapon or piece of armour. For a moment nothing happened. Then almost as one the humans began to scream in agony hurling aside spears and blades as though they were white hold and clutching at uninjured hands. Others writhed on the ground trying desperately to remove their breast plates and greaves. When the Raksha’s charge hit the unarmed and defenceless humans were butchered almost to a man. The witch queen won great praise amongst her peers that day for turning her foes strength against them and her enchantments became greatly desired though out Rakshakstan.
Effects
Curse of the Burning Blade
This enchantment causes all those affected to believe that any item of iron in their possession have become white hot, searing flesh and burning through cloth.
This enchantment uses the charms
- Assumption of the City’s Heart (four mutation points, page 150 E:TFF.)
- Undetectable Lie (nine mutation points, page 175 E:TFF.)
This charm affects an area large enough to support a city of 1’000 people and as such is capable of effecting small armies. All those in the area of affect are subject to an undetectable lie. The chosen lie is “All Iron is white hot.” Characters with wits + essence up to the lorekeepers manipulation will hurl aside any item of iron in their possession anyone unable to do so, a person wearing armour for example, will begin to take damage as though exposed to a bonfire as they imagine their flesh igniting. As this is a desire circle enchantment those with a wits + essence above the manipulation of the lorekeeper can avoid the effects of the enchantment with a stunt or a suitable charm such as Element-Resisting Prana.
This enchantment can be used in shaping combat as a weapon and has the following stat line.
Speed +6, Accuracy +1, Damage +8, Defence +1 and rate 5
