I would also suggest making this charm a prerequisite for Owl-Eye Technique. This resolves the presence of both this charm and Owl-Eye Technique by making this charm cheap, Reflexive, and scene-length, while Owl-Eye is more expensive, Simple, and Day-length; otherwise this charm is never worth it. - Toram

Well, as you know, I agree with you about making PtNVP a prerequisite for OET, but I think it would suffice to make PtNVP either Reflexive or cheaper to use; either change would offer a reason to use it even after you already have OET, so making both changes is superfluous. --MF

I considered that, but decided that the relatively short duration justifies the reduced cost. If 5 motes and an action lets you see in the dark for a day, 5 motes and no action seems a bit pricey to let you see in the dark for just a scene. - Toram

It could also be that Owl-Eye is slightly underpriced. I could see OET being more balanced at a cost of 6 instead of 5, which would make PtNVP feel more like it should cost 4. - Toram

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe I will change the cost of the Charm. You may consider this a new house rule for our game. --MF

Which Caste Book is this Charm from? ^_^ -- BrokenShade

It's from Savage Seas. The problem is that it is nearly identical to Owl-Eye Technique from CB:Night, except it's Awareness 3 instead of 4, and lasts a Scene instead of a Day. No sane player would ever buy this charm as written; they would just raise their Awareness one point and then get OET. - Toram

I agree with some of the proposed changes, but not the idea that the Owl Eye should have Piercing the Night as a prerequisite. That just creates another speedbump; better to let the player choose which one he wants, based on the specifics of the case. I would note, BTW, that there are advantages and disadvantages between the two charms. Piercing the Night doesn't commit the essence nearly as long, it explictly doesn't cause any difficulties with rapid lighting changes, and it is undetectable. Owl Eye on the other hand doesn't explictly note that it prevents you from being blinded if you are strobed with a bright anima flare, and it notes that it causes your eyes to become luminescent.\\ So, my suggestion is just to change to type to Reflexive and perhaps the cost to 4.\\ - CrownedSun

I'll agree with the glowing eyes being a drawback, but committing the motes isn't a limitation; charms can be ended at will (GCG notes this in contrast with spells). And although immunity to lighting changes isn't specifically noted, Solar Awareness charms in general seem to follow the "No Negative Side Effects" rule, so I would rule similarly for this charm. I generally don't have a problem with speedbumps, as long as they aren't rendered completely useless by the later charm. - Toram
