This is not a complete martial art. Rather, it is but one branch of the Fivefold Way of Battles Style.

Professional Skill - The Spear

The sign of the professional soldier, the weapons master, the Spear is the sign of discipline and expertise. In appearance, the Way of the Spear is a regimented, methodical martial art - students practicing its techniques are easily mistaken for soldiers rehearsing drill - but do not be fooled by the simplicity and minimalism of its gestures. The secrets of the Spear make for a well-rounded arsenal, honing the practitioner's own skill with manipulations of Essence to make the most rudimentary combat manuevers deadly. The Way of the Spear is the most widely-practiced substyle, and for obvious reason - while it cannot compete with the savagery of the Gauntlet or the glory of the Banner, it offers an array of straightforward, effective combat techniques.

The substyle of the Spear treats spears and lances as unarmed attacks.

Characters who learn these Charms as if they were Sidereal Charms may freely Combo them with Sidereal Melee Charms. Such a character may also choose to substitute her Melee Ability for the Martial Arts Ability any time the Charms of the Spear call for a use of the Martial Arts Ability, other than for the purposes of meeting the minimum Ability requisite for learning the Charms.

Able Red Spear

Cost: 3 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental (Reflexive)
Minimum Martial Arts: 3
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: None

The spearpoint is unyielding! The Able Red Spear adds the character's permanent Essence rating in dice to an unarmed Martial Arts attack roll if invoked supplementally, or to an unarmed Martial Arts parry if invoked reflexively.

Edge & Haft Discipline

Cost: 4 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Simple
Minimum Martial Arts: 4
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: None

The King reaches beyond his borders! Mastering footwork and action, the martial artist increases the range of his empty-handed Martial Arts attacks by one-half his Essence rating in yards, rounded up, and increases the range of his attacks with the Form weapons of the Spear by his Essence rating in yards. This Charm assumes that normally, unarmed attacks have a range of one yard, while polearms have a range of two.

Student's Posture of the Spear

Cost: 4 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Martial Arts: 4
Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: (one Charm from the Spear substyle)

Pure skill at arms lends the adept flawless command over the battle! When the martial artist declares an unarmed Martial Arts attack or parry, he may reflexively move up to his Essence in yards. This repositioning and the declared action take place simultaneously (though note that stepping out of range while parrying an attack does not nullify that attack, but may nullify subsequent attacks). Additionally, his expertise inflicts a +1 difficulty penalty on anyone rolling in opposition to a combat action made by the martial artist. This is a Martial Arts Posture-type Charm.

Cross Two Spears

Cost: 4 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Martial Arts: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Fivefold Way of Battles Form, Student's Posture of the Spear

The spear of the disciplined soldier breaks asunder the mightiest charge! Invoked when a character within the martial artist's attack range declares an attack, but before a parry is declared, this Charm increases the difficulty of the attack by the Accuracy of the Exalt's weapon.

The Fastest With The Mostest

Cost: 8 motes, 1 Willpower
Duration: Instant
Type: Extra Actions
Minimum Martial Arts: 5
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Fivefold Way of Battles Form, Student's Posture of the Spear

The key to victory is no secret - get there the fastest with the mostest! The adept of the Spear takes this lesson to heart, taking a number of extra actions equal to her initiative total divided by three. These actions may be attacks or movement, but no more actions than the character's Essence rating can be used for movement.

One Spear's Shadow

Cost: 8 motes, 1 Willpower
Duration: Instant
Type: Simple
Minimum Martial Arts: 5
Minimum Essence: 5
Prerequisite Charms: The Fastest With The Mostest

The line of one spear's shadow divides the world! Executing this master's technique, the martial artist delivers a single unarmed Martial Arts attack, but does not roll. Instead, treat it as though all dice that would have been rolled for the attack were successful.

Master's Posture of the Spear

Cost: 6 motes
Duration: One Scene
Type: Reflexive
Minimum Martial Arts: 5
Minimum Essence: 4
Prerequisite Charms: Student's Posture of the Spear, one post-Form Charm from the Spear substyle

Within the Penticosahedron of Battle, the martial artist leaves no line unguarded! The martial artist adopts a stance of pure economy of motion, and he may take two fully independent actions, but still only has one Charm activation per turn. This Charm is incompatible with armor that is not part of the uniform of a military unit that the character serves in, and is a Martial Arts Posture-type Charm.
