The Hundred Kingdoms are not constantly at war, but they are near enough as to make little difference. Between most of the cantrevs, there is only a fragile peace, one both lords are eager to find an excuse to break. No one wants to be the agressor, however, and begin the Bramble War again. Further, the Border Cantrevs, those situated on the feet and near the passes of the Burning Mountains are largely exempt from the constant fueding- they serve too vital a role in repelling the desert barbarians.
The Cantrev Lords functionally have Resources 3 at their ready disposal, but can quickly raise to Resources 4 for short periods by increasing the taxes on their peasantry, selling titles and land, and so on. Most have an honor guard of 25 or so Elite Troops, sponsored by their House- they count as a Scale +2, should fighting break out. This command is largely composed of other close family members and favored aides, keeping familes close. Mercenaries can rapidly swell their ranks, and sellswords are hardly uncommon. Most of the Kingdoms are barely a week wide, most comprising less than two hundred miles of territory, and the borders of the Cantrevs- the Inland Kigndoms especially, are 'open to interpretation'.
The Cantrevs themselves are fairly indistinguishable. They are sparsely populated- a legacy from the Great Contagion. Whole towns still stand, wiped out remenants from the First Age. Most villages are within a day's walk of at least one other, and normally two or three others, but long miles seperate them still.
Just in the south, between Tinalion and the Burning Moutains, there are close to 50 seperate Lords, and nearly twice that number in the Far South or the Northern Coast. Their passions and lives define the Violet Coast.
