Creating New Sidereal Charms
Sidereal Exalts cannot normally create new Charms, due to the structure of their Charm trees and the metaphysical nature of their powers. The conception here is that Sidereal magic is never direct; it is Essence-driven insight manipulating a formal system that then affects the world.
These house rules allow for a weak possibility of expansion of Sidereal magics via an astrological manipulation.
Within an existing cascade
- New Sidereal Charms must be contained in the Scripture; this means that new Charms can be neither base nor pinnacle Charms; they must be inserted into trees between existing Charms. Neither the initial insight nor the final revelation of a Scripture can be changed, in other words, but the path between them can be lengthened.
- New Sidereal Charm creation is an astrological effect that targets every Sidereal; like Resplendent Destinies, it only requires 2 successes to affect any Sidereal, so the total area successes required is about 200.
- Magnitude of the effect is 1 per Essence or Ability requisite.
- The College of the effect is dual; the petition must be performed by someone who has mastered either the Treasure Trove or the Sorcerer, and also has mastered the College of the Ability in question.
- The effect has Instant duration; no successes need be spent on it.
It's not a popular thing to create new Charms in this manner, because elder Exalts are forced to learn a new Charm to regain access to their higher-level powers, and it is so fantastically difficult that it requires the participation of nearly the entire Five-Score Fellowship to succeed.
Creating new cascades
- New Sidereal charm trees must stem from a mechanistic portrayal of a world that is similar to the sky/tapestry/loom. Such things may include: the Calendar of Setesh, She Who Lives In Her Name, and so on.
- The initial Charms - the root and pinnacle of the tree - must be constructed by someone intimately familiar with the representation in which they will be embedded, and their being interwoven into the representation; these form the basis of the Scripture. Generally a representation can hold twenty-five Scriptures, or nine, or four.
- The "astrological" effect that creates new intermediate Charms is identical to the process for creating intermediate Heavenly charms, but the form of "astrology" may vary, and a system analogous to astrological colleges has to be created before any such effects can be attempted.
- The targeting of such an effect is often simpler than that of an analogous astrological manipulation, as it affects only those Sidereals that are involved in creating and using the Charms involved.
Charms, Spiders, and Sky
- While the Spiders are not fond of creating new Charms, they are not any more annoyed by the Sidereals involved than they would be for any other effect. The reason for this is twofold:
- They need to construct a new Charm processing routine for the new Charm, and this pretty much sucks.
- However, once they've done so, this is one tack they can expect less astrological requests about.
- Unfortunately, Charm construction when done without the Maidens' assistance is usually of a lesser quality, and will cause Constellation damage similar to what occurred with the Mask - setting the Constellation in "reverse" or "overdrive" with regard to Sidereal fates, and making it impossible to build the precise ascending and descending dectiny effects on them.
