In Hindu cosmology these beings are earth spirits with many traits similar to those of "dwarves" of western mythologies. If the motif for the rakshas is keeping more with Indian and other Eastern mythos, then MF are more Norse. I mean, the comparison only holds up so far, but they dwell in the shadow of a daily Ragnarok, and have some philosophical resonance with the Norse concept of heroism as I understand it. Of course, this is Exalted, so these Norse-esque dwarves are also kung fu dwarves in power armor. But they are also a bit Mostali and a bit Modron (or so I'm told), and a lot of my imagination creating this alien people whole cloth. If you were to capture the feel of them musically, it would be a hybrid of operatic Scandinavian death metal ballads and Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King."

And that, I think is a sufficient teaser without actually giving anything way except a bit of interpretation for what you already know.
