Water's Edge

Artifact 3

A heavy, straight-bladed daiklaive measuring in at nearly five feet in length and over four inches wide. Water's Edge is the faded remnant of a once much more powerful weapon. Forged of black jade heavily chased and inlaid with orichalcum, the sword was once wielded by the First Age Zenith named Eparathus, who was the Hierophant of the Solar Deliberative at the moment of it's greatest failure. In his hands, Water's Edge commanded the tides to rise against his foes and calmed the brutal western storms with a word. During the Usurpation, however, Eparathus fought back against his attackers with fury, and in the moment of his death, drew on the power of the blade to sink the isle on which he stood, slaying thousands and submerging it beneath the ocean waves. Though his body was recovered and subsequently entombed, both Water's Edge and the Manse were lost, until the new incarnation of that Solar recovered the blade from its watery grave and rediscovered the ancient Manse, now buried beneath the waves.

Both the Manse and Water's Edge are greatly reduced in power from what they once were, though the daiklaive remains a potent weapon. It requires 5 motes to attune and can be made to naturally resonate with the anima of either Solars or of Dragon Blooded, gaining either the orichalcum or jade materials bonus as appropriate - a side-effect of the materials used in its creation. The blade has one Hearthstone setting at the juncture of the blade and hilt, and the magics woven into it allow the Exalt attuned to it to wield the weapon freely even while submerged in water. A wielder who has harmonized the blade with his anima is also protected from the dangers of deep immersion in the frigid western seas: freezing cold and crushing pressure are no danger to him, though it does not grant any ability to breathe while underwater. Lastly, for 5 motes the blade can actually transform into liquid water, literally flowing past an opponent's defenses and solidifying again. The effect is to negate a single successful parry attempt against the wielder. This effect cannot defeat a perfect defense, however.

When immersed in water, the blade appears to become translucent - the black jade appears smoky and glass-like, and the orichalcum glitters and shines with its own inner light.
