Initial observations on the style and it's flaws.

The following is a transcript of a skype chat between me and Cassus and another User called Omikun17 on fixing the errors my inexperience with MA design injected into the style's rough draft.

[10:04:54 PM] Cassus: Twirling Baton: Expensive, but it -is- a TMA. Up and Over: Should apply only to unarmed attacks. Also, what action does it supplement? Do they pay the cost for every attack in the flurry? Honestly, tick-long free unexpected is something that not even Celestial charms can equal-- compare that Lunar chameleon charm or Thousandfold Typhoon Hand (with errata).

[10:05:42 PM] The Ghost: I was hoping to have time to do a session with you tonight as well but I have to get over to zon's.

[10:06:27 PM] omikun17: Twirling Baton states lower of MA or Performance. So if your Martial Artists doesnt hav Performance as well its useless

[10:06:41 PM] Cassus: Walking Stick: How do you roll Conviction to suppress Compassion? If this is NMI, then targets can normally spend willpower to just ignore it (and avoid limit gain associated wit hsuppressing compassion); is this charm an exception?

[10:07:05 PM] Cassus: Path of the Stave: The Form-Type charm has very low prerequisites.

[10:08:08 PM] The Ghost: @ Omi, I was thinking of making performance 2 one of those 'you need to have this to learn the style' things.

[10:09:17 PM | Edited 10:09:27 PM] The Ghost: @ Cass: The form type was origionaly further up the tree where Aged Hickory Infusion is now, should I switch it back?

[10:09:27 PM] Cassus: Fanning Rota: So mortals can get the Terrestrial perfect parry. That's... significant, and not available elsewhere, but not necessarily utterly broken. I would reprahse "artifact weapon" to use the phrase "nonmagical weapon," as it's more traditional. Again, low prerequsites.

[10:10:02 PM] omikun17: Low prereqs as in MA 2 Essence 2 not in charms

[10:10:03 PM] Cassus: Both references to "prerequisites" above apply to the minimum MA rating, not the number of required charms. Forms usuall do seem to sit in the middle of the tree unless the style has several Forms.

[10:10:23 PM] The Ghost: Ok.

[10:10:24 PM] omikun17: so MA 3 minimum

[10:10:36 PM] The Ghost: I can work with that.

[10:10:44 PM] The Ghost: What else?

[10:10:57 PM] Cassus: Pole Spinning: Replace "feet and form weapons" with "unarmed attacks." Any MA treats form weapons as unarmed, so you can tighten up the language in all charms.

[10:11:06 PM] The Ghost: Ok.

[10:12:07 PM] Cassus: Pole Spinning 2: Language is a bit hard to follow. Is the number of attacks capped by the lower or higher of the number of nearby opponents or their weapons' rate?

[10:12:22 PM] The Ghost: I also think the descriptions of the charms could use some work...

[10:13:03 PM] Cassus: Aged Hickory Infusion: What type of charm is this? Simple, Reflexive, etc?

[10:13:13 PM] The Ghost: It is capped FOR WEAPONS by by their rate, but for true unarmed attacks by the number of opponents there to be hit.

[10:13:23 PM] The Ghost: Blast!

[10:13:31 PM] The Ghost: I think it wa suplimental.

[10:13:32 PM] omikun17: all form type weapons are considered unarmed

[10:14:08 PM] The Ghost: The idea of the charm is you use the pole of stick as a prop and kick everyone surounding you in the face.

[10:14:51 PM] Cassus: One Chopstick: It's unique, and I can't think of an easy way to break it, but I'd put it lower in the tree. It's not exactly the stuff of legendary capstones.

[10:14:59 PM] The Ghost: Ok.

[10:15:12 PM] The Ghost: Mayby sub that for rota defense?

[10:15:23 PM] The Ghost: I mean switch them?

[10:15:26 PM] Cassus: That'd work.

[10:16:07 PM] omikun17: yes now the non perfect defense is higher up the tree

[10:16:19 PM] The Ghost: K.

[10:16:45 PM] The Ghost: Any ideas on the form? I was thinking -1 discount on the other charms?

[10:16:57 PM] The Ghost: Maybey with some other efect?

[10:17:52 PM] Cassus: Stave of Legends: It's pretty minor... until you realize that it allows mortal martial artists to attune artifact weapons in a single action. When they normally wouldn't be able to, and even most Solaroids take a scene. What's the charm type for Stave, anyways?

[10:18:10 PM] The Ghost: Blast again!

[10:18:29 PM] The Ghost: I think that one was simple.

[10:19:20 PM] The Ghost: And people with awakened essence can attune artifacts, they just cant get MM bonuses.

[10:19:39 PM] The Ghost: Which you kinda have to have to learn MAs.

[10:21:41 PM] Cassus: Scrolls: No other terrestrial or even Celestial MA outright requires a tutor; that's a privilege reserved until now for Sidereal MAs.

[10:23:20 PM] The Ghost: They DONT?

[10:23:26 PM] Cassus: Eternal Student: Every other MA out there restricts its charms to "unarmed attacks," except for a few that restrict to specific weapons (I can think of one that requires a whip). It sounds amazing, possibly superior to the capstone to Celestial Monkey, at first glance, but I don't think it will ever apply.

[10:23:30 PM] The Ghost: That's news to me!

[10:24:17 PM] The Ghost: OK... Not sure what you mean there.

[10:24:53 PM] Cassus: Eternal student says you make your Form-Type weapons into FTWs for every MA you know, except for charms that require unarmed attacks or a specific weapon type, right?

[10:25:07 PM | Edited 10:25:20 PM] The Ghost: So you are saying that form weapons...

Right.

[10:25:29 PM] Cassus: Every MA charm out there, even ones like Even Blade Style, use the term "unarmed attacks" to flag charms that can only be used with form-type weapons. Like I mentioned earlier.

[10:25:38 PM] The Ghost: OK.

[10:25:44 PM] Cassus: So if you say "no unarmed or specifc weapons," you're basically saying, "no MA charms."

[10:25:46 PM] The Ghost: I think I get it now.

[10:26:08 PM | Edited 10:26:13 PM] The Ghost: It's a wording problem.

[10:26:47 PM] The Ghost: It should say something like 'Specific Weapons or attacks with bare hands.'

[10:27:13 PM | Edited 10:27:51 PM] Cassus: Okay. So, general view... Some work on wording and keywording needed. It's got a few unique flavors. Nothing especially earthshattering, which is par for a terrestrial MA; may want to think about your trait minimums. Except for Up and Over. If that comes into the game, every martial artist in existence will take that charm, regardless of their other picks.

[10:27:29 PM] Cassus: Other than that, see above.

[10:27:42 PM] The Ghost: Up and over Will need to be rewriten.

[10:28:04 PM] The Ghost: This is why I asked for a third opinion. --Survival is Niffty! 02:41, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
