Sidereal Astrology

Astrology doesn’t seem to work the same as it did in the old days, our memories, though hazy, just
don’t match what we experience now. It still works though so I have no complaints. It lets us do things
no one else can do, on a scale pretty much no one else can match, even if it the effect is pretty
subtle. And of course we can concentrate that power on ourselves with a Resplendent Destiny when we need
it, so no complaints here, especially once I learn a few more tricks with the Petitions…

At its most basic Astrology is a prayer from the Sidereal to the Pattern Spiders associated with the
Constellation that the chosen effect is within the Purview of. If the Sidereal manages to convince the
Spiders and provide them with detailed enough instructions, then the Pattern Spiders will take time to
weave the Sidereal’s chosen destiny into Fate. The Chosen can provide something with Ascending Destiny,
which acts as a blessing within the Constellation’s Purview, or a Descending Destiny acting as a curse
against the target within the Purview. The Viziers can also adopt a Resplendent Destiny for themselves,
becoming the iconic example of the Constellation, providing some important benefits. The Sidereal can
learn special additional prayer methods that expand these basics by purchasing Petitions.

Mechanically, at it simplest, a Sidereal performs Astrology by entering a trance. This follows the rules
written in the Second Sight book for trances. When successful the Sidereal rolls their Essence score
plus the lowest of all their mental and social attributes. The process of fate bending, combined with
praying is so involved that the weakest part of the sidereal become the limiting factor. Successes on
this basic roll are “spent” to expand the area, frequency, duration, and scale of the effect. A large
number of things can act as bonuses and penalties to this roll though.
