| − | Shades started life in the tunnels and underways of Gem. Abandoned at an early age by he rmother she was taken in by a bounty hunters guild with in the city, trained at first as a scout, and then, as she matured, as a hunter. As a hunter the young shades excelled, undetered by the targets reputation, and implacable in the hunt.

| − | By the age of 19, Shades had garnered quite a reputation herself, as the person to come too if you needed to track someone down. Prehaps inevitably, sometimes she was asked to ensure a target would never return, and sometimes knowing the crimes of the target, she accepted contracts on these terms. With each new target she tracked down, each new crime committed, alittle bit of her humanity leeched away, another layer of ice around the fragile bloom of her heart. She began to dabble in posions and the occult, seeking easier ways to take down her targets, expanding her repertoir of targets to include troublesome ghosts.

| − | It was this that brought her to the attention of agents of The First And Forsaken Lion, contracting her to hunt down a ghost that had stolen from Lion, then fled, escaping into Creation through a small shadowland. She tracked the ghost with some difficulty, but succeeded in capturing it, and then dispatching it. Over the next 3 years she worked many more times for Lion, hunting both mortals and ghosts that had angered him. Curiosity about her employer lead her into researches further into the dead, culminating in her attemping to connact the Lion through a necromantic ritual.

| − | The ritual accomplished almost nothing in the way of actual contact, but it brought her to Lions attention. Annoyed at her teremity, the Lion ensured her next year was most difficult a variety of though jobs coming her way. When these failed to get him her ghost, he dispatched agents to bring her before him. Ever curious about the nature of her employer she came as bidden, brought into the Underworld and to The Thousand. Crossing the bridge over Obvilvion surrounding his throne, the Lion told her he had a challenge for her. She would hunt one of his nemesaries across the desert of the underworld south, capture him and bring him to her. She accepted.

| − | The chase was long, but shades endured it, the prey subtle but shades saw through his deceptions. She caught him, after the centuries old ghost ceased toying with her, and they fought. The ghost prevailed, and as she lay there, bleeding out her life to the desert floor. As she wilted, the Lion came to her, offering her a choice. Serve him as a ghost when she passed away or become one of the abysssals and serve him that way.

| − | As an abyssal, her occult studies were turned to necromancy, Lion teaching her some of the ways of the labyrinth so she could return to him all the faster after her hunt. Armed with the Ghostly Bloom Of Thorns, her skills at tracking and her tenacity, shades has never failed the Lion. Except once. She was sent out to hunt a night caste, exalted from one of the desert tribes, who had found her way down into the Underworld. She hunted the night, hunted her across the ash of the under-desert...hunted her across the burnign desert of the south. She caught the night SOuth of Chiaroscuro, and they did battle on the shifting dunes, the chains of the Bloom weaving and twisting through the cool night air, the solar dodging and leaping, always evading the thorns. Then the night struck back, a vicious whirlwind, driving Shades back. The battle raged, the night gaining the upper hand, crippling shades, and escaping again, leaving shades for dead in the desert. Shades endured however, and tryed to track the night again...and she failed, the tracks swallowed by the sand.

| − | The Lion was not understanding of her failure, giving her over to the 'care' of his torturers for a season. Those three months passed slowly for shades, very slowly. When her time was over, she was carried before the Lion, left at the base of his throne. In his hands he had the deep red clothes woven of her own screams during the torture, and these he presented to Shades, bidding her to don them. she did so, hearing her own voice pleading and begging as she did, and she understood. Since that day she has vowed never to fail the Lion again, fearful of what he would do then.
