Bloody Reaver Style

Bloody Reaver is a swift and deadly Celestial martial arts style first developed by the First and Forsaken Lion. Its emphasis is on defeating multiple opponents quickly and decisively. However, the current master of the style, the Resplendent Sanguine Artist seeks to emphasize the style’s brutal finesse. To her, the style is a means to transform battlefield slaughter into an art form as nuanced as painting, poetry or song.

Practitioners of Bloody Reaver rarely fight unarmed though they do often fight without armor. Practitioners favor anything with a bladed edge and eschew impact weapons and those that cause blunt trauma. Bladed weapons are believed to allow the practitioner more control over his opponent’s pain and suffering which is extremely important to all Reaver Stylists. That said, Bloody Reaver Style has no actual form weapons.

Striking with swift precision, the Reaver Stylist is able to open bleeding gashes upon his opponent’s body at will, regardless of whether or not he is armed. Crimson Petal Concentration may only be used to execute an unarmed martial arts attack. If the attack is successful and at least one success is gained on the damage roll, then this charm takes effect.

Instead of inflicting damage as normal, the target suffers a single health level of lethal damage. However the wound inflicted by this charm bleeds profusely. Exalted opponents must roll Stamina + Resistance at a difficulty equal to the Reaver Stylist’s permanent essence to staunch the bleeding. This roll can be made once per action as normal. Mortal victims must receive immediate medical attention, requiring the attending physician to succeed at a Wits + Medicine roll at a difficulty equal to the Reaver Stylist’s permanent Essence. Every action that the bleeding remains unstaunched, the victim suffers an unsoakable health level of lethal damage. Any magic that automatically heals the wound caused by this Charm automatically stops the bleeding.

Keywords: Form-type, Obvious

Using this Charm the Bloody Reaver Stylist sharpens his reflexes and senses, honing them for a single purpose: slaughtering anything that gets in his way. While under the effects of this Charm whisps of crimson energy bleed from the Reaver Stylist’s anima with every move he makes while his eyes take on a sanguine hue. While using Bloody Reaver Form the martial artist’s unarmed martial arts attacks always inflict lethal damage. In addition the Rate of his unarmed martial arts attacks increases by 2. However, clinch attacks gain no benefit from Bloody Reaver Form.

Anytime the Bloody Reaver Stylist inflicts at least one health level of lethal damage with a martial arts attack he may reflexively spend a mote of Essence. If he does so, he may roll a number of dice equal to his successes on the damage roll. Each success on this roll allows the Reaver Stylist to regain one mote of essence up to a maximum of his permanent Essence. If the Reaver Stylist is an Abyssal with a blood pool this essence may be used to replenish the Reaver Stylist’s blood pool. This charm is incompatible with the use of armor.

Battlefield Slaughter Attitude:

Cost: 5m, 1w; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 3; Type: Extra Action

Keywords: Combo-Ok, Obvious

Duration: Instant

Prerequisite Charm: Bloody Vengeance Strike

Once this Charm is invoked, the Reaver Stylist becomes a maelstrom of activity and the battlefield instantly becomes a slaughtering ground. Moving with preternatural speed and grace, the Reaver Stylist executes a single martial arts attack against everyone within his Essence x 5 yards, regardless of whether they are friend or foe. Regardless of the number of attacks the Reaver Stylist makes when invoking this Charm he suffers no multiple action penalties on his attacks and only a –2 DV penalty.
Defense of Blood and Fury:

Cost: 4m, 1w; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 3; Type: Simple

Keywords: Obvious

Duration: One scene

Prerequisite Charm: Battlefield Slaughter Attitude

Cutting a bloody swath through his opponents the Reaver Stylist inevitably becomes coated with gore and the essence of death, using this Charm the Reaver Stylist uses that essence to enhance his anima and ward off his opponent’s blows. For the rest of the scene whenever the Reaver Stylist kills an opponent in battle his Martial Arts Parry DV, Bashing Soak and Lethal Soak increase by 1 for the duration of the scene. This cannot cause his DV to increase by more then half his Dexterity + Martial Arts rounded up, though there is no upper limit to the amount of soak he can gain through the use of this Charm.

For the purpose of this Charm the Reaver Stylist need only strike the final blow that reduces his opponent below incapacitated with lethal damage. While this Charm is invoked any blood that falls upon the Reaver Stylist in battle warps itself into strange eldritch runes that glow with the colors of the Reaver Stylist’s anima. If the DV bonus granted by this Charm exceeds an attacker’s Valor that opponent must make a reflexive Willpower roll at difficulty 2 or he cannot choose to attack the Reaver Stylist until his next action. This is a form of unnatural mental influence and characters can spend three Willpower to ignore this effect for the scene.
Rend Asunder:

Cost: 2m; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 2; Type: Supplemental

Keywords: Combo-Ok, Obvious

Duration: Instant

Bleeding Edge of Death Meditation:

Cost: 5m, 1w, 1hl; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 3; Type: Simple

Keywords: Obvious

Duration: One scene

Prerequisite Charm: Rend Asunder

This Charm enables a Reaver Stylist to transform an edged weapon into a deadly extension of his own body. To invoke this Charm the Reaver Stylist must first have successfully drawn blood with the blade at least once. The Reaver Stylist must then draw his own blood, masochistic Stylists tend cut themselves deeply with the weapon, while the less deranged take blood from an open wound on their body and use it to coat the edge of the blade. By then committing blood, will and essence to the blade the weapon becomes an extension of the Reaver Stylist’s body until the end of the scene. The Health Level sacrificed for this charm is treated as a lethal wound and is paid immediately when the Charm is invoked.

Mechanically this allows the Reaver Stylist to use his martial arts skill rather then his melee skill to attack with the weapon. In addition all attacks with the weapon are treated as unarmed martial arts attacks so long as the Reaver Stylist uses his martial arts skill for the attack roll. Finally the Reaver Stylist gains an attack, defense and damage bonus with the weapon equal to the number of times he has previously invoked this Charm upon that weapon up to a maximum of his permanent Essence.

Bleeding Edge of Death Meditation can only be used to attune a weapon with a metal blade and has no effect on weapons that inflict bashing damage. However, it can be used to anoint the Reaver Stylist’s bare fists and feet as long as Bloody Reaver Form is active.
Vicious Maiming Methodology:

Cost: 5m, 1w; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 4; Type: Simple

Keywords: Obvious, Crippling

Duration: One scene

Prerequisite Charms: Bleeding Edge of Death Meditation, Defense of Blood and Fury

Once this Charm is invoked the Bloody Reaver Stylist becomes capable of maiming opponents with an almost casual ease. For the rest of the scene the Reaver Stylist may attempt a reflexive coup de grace with any of her martial arts attacks that inflict lethal damage. The Reaver Stylist may ignore the normal penalties for performing a coup de grace while this Charm is active. In addition whenever the Reaver Stylist attempts a martial arts coup de grace the base damage of her attack is doubled before soak is applied.
