Charms

Front-Defense Stance

Cost: 3 motes
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 2
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: None

The exalt concentrates himself fully on what is in front of him, giving him a +2 accuracy and defense bonus against any opponent in front of him. This however, also causes the exalt to become unaware of any attack coming from the back. The exalt may follow his opponent's moves, making sure they never reach his back and attack him from behind. When facing multiple opponents, he can only follow one opponent with this ability.

Clinch of the Scorpion
Cost: 4 motes
Duration: Until released
Type: Reflexive
Min. Martial Arts: 3
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Front-Defense Stance

The exalt uses essence to turn his hands into deadly weapons. While in a clinch, the exalt may activate this charm to turn the damage he does in a clinch to lethal damage instead of the normal bashing damage. In addition, his damage is increased by 2, and ignores armor the defending character is wearing, as the essence enhanced hands cut right through them. This does not negate armor made from the five magical materials. Once the target is released, the charm ends, and has to be reactivated if another clinch is engaged.

Scorpion Form
Cost: 5 motes
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 4
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Clinch of the Scorpion

The character's skin hardens, and his hands become like cutting tools. For the rest of the scene, the exalt may use his full stamina to soak lethal damage. In addition, the exalt's hand strikes do lethal damage, and add an extra 2 damage to any attack. This form is compatible with armor that has a mobility penalty of less than -2. Characters cannot use more than one Martial Arts Form-type charm at a time. If another Form-type charm is activated, this charm ends.

Vibration-Sense Technique
Cost: 4 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 4
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Scorpion Form

One who studies the scorpion often wonders how he detects his prey, for the most stealthy enemies have tried to sneak up on him, but failed miserably. The exalt uses the vibrations of his surroundings and enemies to determine the positions of potential foes that are near. The exalt is automatically aware of anyone within a radius of his permanent essence x 3 in yards. This only pinpoints positions, and only gives a rough description of size and weight. This charm can even identify mice and insects walking or flying in the vicinity, but in combat, it is unlikely anything smaller than a dog can be identified, since the exalt also makes vibrations himself, and identifying such small creatures takes tremendous concentration. Even though the exalt is aware of general positions, this does not make him automatically aware of attacks.

Mate's Embrace Maneuver
Cost: 1 mote
Duration: Exalted's Essence in turns
Type: Reflexive
Min. Martial Arts: 3
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Front-Defense Stance

While in a clinch, the exalt can use essence to slightly lift his opponent, allowing him to move regardless of the opponent's wishes. For a number of turns equal to his essence, the exalt is allowed to move his essence in yards in any direction. Taking his opponent with him. This can be used to topple opponents over edges, or driving them into the water. Or worse.

Scissor-Snap Technique
Cost: 3 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Min. Martial Arts: 4
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Clinch of the Scorpion, Mate's Embrace Maneuver

When attacked, the exalt can react to an attack by using his hands or weapons as a scissor, damaging his opponent so that his attack will be compromised. The exalt makes a reflexive Melee or Martial Arts attack on the opponent trying to hit him, working out the attack as normal. The total health levels inflicted by the exalt is halved, but the other half is added to the difficulty of the opponent's strike. This charm can only be used while wielding twin swords or similar weapons, or while fighting unarmed.

Body-Pounding Embrace
Cost: 3 motes per attack, 1 willpower
Duration: Instant
Type: Extra Action
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 3
Prereqs: Vibration-Sense Technique, Mate's Embrace Maneuver

While engaged in a clinch, the exalt uses his knees, elbows and head to pound into his opponent with great strength and speed. For every 3 motes spent, the exalt can make one Brawl or Martial Arts attack at her full dice pool, to a maximum number of attacks equal to his martial arts score. These attacks are in addition to the normal action normally allowed in a clinch. Body-Pounding Embrace is explicitly allowed to be in a combo with charms from other abilities, but only of those charms can be activated while engaged in a clinch.

Sting of the Scorpion
Cost: 5 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: Instant
Type: Supplemental
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 4
Prereqs: Body-Pounding Embrace

The exalt strikes with the speed of the scorpion's tale, leaving most opponent's unable to defend themselves against the quickness of this attack. The exalt makes a normal attack, but while enhanced by this charm, he automatically wins initiative over any other combatant, and nobody can activate any reflexive charms before the attack is resolved. If anyone activates a charm that would win initiative over the exalt, a normal roll for initiative is made, but the exalt gets a +3 bonus to that roll. Weapons like spears, swords, rapiers and other piercing weapons can be used with this charm, but weapons that require a swing to be effective (like axes and polearms) cannot be used. This charm can never be part of a combo with charms from other abilities.
