Background

Erin gave a look to the mismatched men who were united with her in their desperate defense of the town. Warriors ? Most of those men had never hold any other weapon than a hay-fork or a staff. They were farmers, merchants, artisans. But they were all the town folks had. No, these men weren’t warriors, they were heroes.

Since when she was a little girl, back when she still believed she would become a Dragon Blooded, Erin had wanted to be a hero, to fight to defend the people and the civilization of the Realm. Even after if was clear she would never Exalt, she had joined the Legion, desperate to be of use, and to make a difference. And now that she could at last, now that she had been chosen by the Unconquered Sun to fight in his name, she was considered a monster and a demon by those she would like to protect, and things had become way more complicated. Erin didn’t like complicated situation. She was a soldier, and she though in terms of enemies and allies. Well this was a simple situation : they had to save the town from the barbarians ready to raid it. So she would be able to shine at what she was best.

“Listen to me”, she started, “You might think you are not worth much as warriors and this is useless. But you don’t need to be warriors. You need to be soldiers. Your strength is that you all know each others well and that you fight to defend what you hold dear and you worked all your life to build. So you will be able to fight, together, in much better way than those barbarians. You will be able to fight as one.

I know battle, and there’s one thing incredibly more important than courage or skills in weapons. And that’s discipline and teamwork. I’ll show you...”
