Charms

Burning Chariot Feet

Cost: 1 motes per dot for sprinting, 2 per dot for running
Duration: Instant
Type: Reflexive
Min. Martial Arts: 2
Min. Essence: 1
Prereqs: None

Stadiums are, generally speaking, large. The fighter must sometimes learn to be a mover, using her martial abilities to flash from one point to another with quick and easy grace.

System: The character spends one mote to double her sprinting distance, two to triple it, three to quadruple it, etc. up to the character's Martial Arts score. Two motes also doubles the character's running distance, four triples it, etc. Also, the character's base sprinting/running distance plus the bonuses granted by this Charm are used to determine whether or not the character may make a dice action in the same turn she moved.

Going Around and Through
Cost: 3 motes
Duration: Instant
Type: Extra Action
Min. Martial Arts: 3
Min. Essence: 1
Prereqs: Burning Chariot Feet

The gladiator quickly dodges a thrust, twisting around her opponent and hitting him hard from behind, knocking him down on the ground.

System: The character must first decide to use the Charm when he/she decides to dodge the attack, spending the necessary Essence BEFORE dodging, but AFTER the target attacks. After that, he/she must successfully dodge the incoming attack, then automatically whirls around the target and may make an attack in any manner in the same turn. If the attack is successful, the target is automatically knocked down (Strength x 2) feet away from where he stood by the attack onto the ground and must take an action to get back up. (The character may also choose to, say, grapple or run away, but it is assumed he/she will attack from behind after dodging.) No roll is necessary for coming around the opponent.

Combatant Suffers Little
Cost: 3 motes
Duration: Varies
Type: Reflexive
Min. Martial Arts: 3
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Going Around and Through

Pain can be a great distraction from one's goal of victory in the ring. The fighter learns to use her martial abilities to lessen the pain that comes with physical damage.

System: Damage is applied normally, but all dice penalties incurred from damage are reduced by one for (Martial Arts + Essence) turns. (-0 health levels are unaffected, -1 health levels have no dice penalty, -2 health levels have a -1 dice penalty, and the -4 health level has a -3 dice penalty.) The character can continue to accumulate damage, but once he/she reaches the Incapacitated level, the Charm loses its effect. Note that during the scene in which this Charm is effective, damage may be healed through Charms or by other means.

Gladiator Form
Cost: 5 motes
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 4
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Combatant Suffers Little

The gladiator crouches slightly, stretching her arms out and flexing all the muscles in her body, including the most vital: her mind. She can move long distances with ease, beat back her opponents when attacked, and can ease physical pain.

System: While remaining in this form, the character may move her full walking, sprinting, or running distance and make a dice action. The character also gains an immediate counterattack for all incoming hand-to-hand attacks with her full Dexterity + Martial Arts score that knocks the target (Strength x 2) feet back onto the ground. Lastly, the character reduces all dice penalties incurred from damage by 1.

Warrior Feels No Pain
Cost: 6 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Gladiator Form

The gladiator hones her Essence through her martial abilities, brushing her hands over wounds to rid herself of the effects of pain and physical damage, ignoring completely the distractions of hurt and suffering.

System: Damage is applied normally, but all dice penalties are ignored for the duration of the scene. The character can continue to accumulate damage, but once he/she reaches the Incapacitated level, the Charm loses its effect. Note that during the scene in which this Charm is effective, damage may be healed through Charms or by other means.

Concentration of the Fighter
Cost: 6 motes, 1 willpower
Duration: One scene
Type: Simple
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 2
Prereqs: Gladiator Form

The Exalt concentrates Essence and sheer determination into her mind and body, quickening both thought and motion and enhancing her instinctual offensive and defensive abilities.

System: The character spends one turn committing the Essence, then for the rest of the scene she adds her Martial Arts + Essence score to her initiative total.
