Acrid Blasphemies Recorded
Artifact Variable
Attunement: 5

Forged in an unknown time this is a rather unique artifact created by a former member of the Eclipse Caste whose name has long been lost to history. It looks like an oversized pencil 4 foot long and nearly 8 inches in diameter. The core is a hallow tube of soulsteel filled with the stuff of Oblivion that gives the artifact its deadly power and allows the one attuned to the weapon to hear the whispers of the dead primordials. Around this core of soulsteel are unknown alloies forged in the depths of the Underworld.

Profane green runes run along the length of the artifact. Burning with the twisted pale green fires of the Underworld. Dangling from the other end is a small latern. Attached to the rest of the artifact was a crystal that was mined from the walls of the Labyrinth. The latern guides those through the Underworld once the bearer accepts the truths the Neverborn speak to them.

The power of the artifact is directly linked to Whispers that the character can hear. The stronger the characters Whispers the more potent the artifact becomes. But the power of the artifact comes from the blood of the living and the essence of the dead. When wound by the artifact it leaves a black stain upon the targets body and soul creating an arcane link between the wounded and the artifact. The difficulty to break the link is tied to the artifacts awakened level on an essence roll. Each day the artifact drains 1 HL from a mortal or 5 motes from a ghost. If either total reaches zero because of the effect of the artifact the soul is drawn into the weapon and lost. Upon attuning to the artifact the character gains Whispers 1 as a training effect that must be bought off for 3 xp.

The artifact can hold up to 30 stored levels in which the runes nearly cover the artifact in terrible maddening patterns. More potent effects draw out more of the artifacts stored power. When wielded in combat the artifact behaves like a daiklave reguardless of its shape.

Whispers 1 - At this level it behaves just as above.

Whispers 2 -

Whispers 3 - Drawing a blasphemous sigil upon the ground the earth beneath cracks and dies. Crumbling away to reveal a cavern and stairs leading downward. Following these stairs will take a character into the Labyrinth but it offers no protection from the things that lurk within. It can also be used to draw the same sigil inside the Labyrinth to return to Creation or a Shadowland.

Whispers 4 -

Whispers 5 - At this level the latern at the end of the artifact protects the character and their party from the dangers of the labyrinth provided they stay within the pale radius of the latern. Nephwracks and Mortwrights will treat the characters well enough upon their first meeting since it is a sign of their patrons pleasure that the characters are able to wield the artifact so completely.
