Power of the Pattern

 Cost: None
 Duration: Permanent
 Type: Special
 Minimum Survival: 1
 Minimum Essence: 2
 Prerequisite Charms: None

Often, the Chosen of Mercury find that they cannot take the time to recover Essence, needing to quickly spend it in large amounts. To this end, the Maiden created this Charm. When this Charm is purchased, it provides a special pool, "Fate Essence". For each purchase of this Charm, the maximum Fate Essence pool is increased by 6. Spending Essence from this pool counts as peripheral Essence. This Essence is difficult to recharge, requiring the Sidereal to take a level of lethal damage in order to regain 6 motes in this pool. The Sidereal may not do this more times per day than she has Permanent Essence. Finally, these motes may not be used to attune to artifacts.
Sidereals may purchase this Charm up to a number of times equal to their permanent Essence.

Comments

Again, as with my comment on [[[FrivYeti/DBSurvival]]], I'm slightly anti-this charm. While I can see Lunars, Solars, Alchies, and Abyssals as being known for their raw pools of Essence, one of the most constant themes with Siddies is their "over-commitment". With so many committed motes, such a small overall pool, yet easy ways to refill it, Siddies suffer from a problem different than most other Exalts: That of effectively using all their essence. A Siddie has tons of ways to gain essence, but will often end up so over-committed that they can't really gain effective use out of it, and that's part of the whole Siddie feel, and strategy. Much as DB's work with small pools, Siddies work with over-committed ones, and the other Exalted types have other problems (such as the Abyssal's tendency to both gain and use essence in giant streaming fountains, and the Alchies total lack of useful personal essence). Much as I suggested making the DB charm anti-artifact, I'd almost say this 'breaks the system' by increasing the Siddies total pool. To continue with the feel, however, and the stated intent of the charm, I'd almost be willing to suggest a soybean-trade of health levels to motes, with a maximum number of times per day used. Sacrifice a fragment of your own fate, your own survival, and dump essence into your pattern. Perhaps 7m per HL? 8?

Ooh, I like that! You sir, win the Internet! Changed so that health levels are the source of mote recharging. - FrivYeti
Sweet. I was not expecting to win the internet. I think I'll donate it to charity. Thanks for the compliment! -- GregLink

It has since occured to me today that Sidereals already HAVE their equivalent of the Solar pool enhancers; the Essence Replenishment Charms themselves. Solars increase their pools; Sidereals refill their pools. It makes a sad amount of sense. As such, I'm going to have to declare this Charm dead to me (although I'll leave it around for old times' sake). - FrivYeti
