The Third Session: What's the Worst That Could Happen?

Having gotten their supplies, the characters returned to the inn to consider their situation. Sydney managed to accidentally charm the serving girl, and spent most of the meal quietly avoiding her eye, while Alberon finally got around to bringing up a Resplendant Destiny, the Pillar. Sydney and Taran noticed something different about him, but couldn't quite place what it was. After studying the religious book, and discovering what appeared to be a variant of the Usurpation story, the three began to discuss just what to do next; it was agreed that they needed more information if they were going to find a way to leave this kingdom.
That night, both Sydney and Taran went out wandering again; Sydney wound up finding a lovely young woman who convinced him that there was no need to go home, and Taran meandered down to the palace. Once there, she chatted with the guards, failed to convince them that she was nobility and should be taken in to meet the king, and debated briefly whether or not their rudeness deserved being sliced into ribbons. Ultimately, she decided not to kill them, and returned to the inn.
The next day, Alberon said that he wanted to see religious practices, and convinced the three to go to the Temple of Sharr for worship. Alberon talked quietly to the head priest, and managed to convince him to allow him to take part in the ceremony. As it began, Alberon turned his attention towards praying, sending out a prayerful summons to the Goddess of Love. ((OOC: Rolled 10 successes, too, very impressive.))
As the prayer continued, there was a heat-shimmer in the air, and the Goddess of Love herself appeared, flanked by two beautiful male bodyguards. Alberon and Taran immediately recognized her as a Dragon-Blood, which seemed bizarre, because Dragon-Bloods can't hear prayers. Everyone except Taran immediately fell to their knees, and Sydney began unconciously trying to attract Sharr. Alberon expressed his love and admiration... and then Sharr noticed Taran. Walking over to her, she asked why the woman wasn't bowing. Taran looked her in the eye, and a terse discussion began. It ended when Taran spoke the question, "Is there a problem with that, miss?", and Sharr, eyes narrowed, snorted. Taran was instantly afflicted with a weakening of her attractiveness ((-1 Appearance)), and Sharr, lip curled, turned her attention from the struck woman. She spoke with Sydney briefly, telling him to come to Redonel for the Festival, and she would accept him as an Acolyte, and then went into the back and spoke briefly with Alberon, telling him the same. Alberon inquired about the world beyond the Mists, and Sharr said that it was gone forever, and could not be retrieved. Then she departed.
The congregation was astounded, and paid more attention to Sydney and Alberon (while avoiding Taran). After the ceremony finished, the three started back to the inn, Taran being rather annoyed. They learned that the festival of which Sharr spoke was two weeks away, and Redonel was only a little over a week's travel, so there should be plenty of time to get there. Gathering their things in their rooms, they started downstairs... to discover twenty of the red-and-brown clad Chosen standing around. The captain asked if the three were the Mistwalkers, and then informed them that they were being conscripted on a rescue mission for a party that had become lost in the Mist. The three accepted with good grace, after getting assurances that it would leave them sufficient time to reach Redonel for the Festival, and the party began to set out eastwards, towards the Mist...

Quote of the week:
Taran: "I've found my new palace."
Alberon: "What? Where?"
Taran: "It's the big palace, near the centre of town."
Sydney: "Uh, Taran, I think that's the king's palace."
Taran: *smiles* "I think he could be persuaded to share."
