Pure Heart

Celestial Circle Sorcery
Falcon/PureHeart/B> <B>25 motesFalcon/PureHeart/B>

Upon completion of this spell, the target collapses in agony, clutching his chest as his heart is transmuted to the stuff of Malfeas and his blood turns to vitriol. He remains incapacitated for (10 - Stamina + Resistance) turns before the pain subsides and he is able to act normally again. The change cannot be interrupted short of great sorcery.

When the victim arises, he is in the grip of a permanent and unspeakable rage. If he is cut, the vitriol that runs from the wound is black and caustic, burning living flesh and scorching objects not made of the five magical materials. He gains a pool of personal essence with the tinge of Malfeas equal to 2 x (Essence + Willpower) motes. This pool can be used to power the spirit charms Principle of Motion, Stoke the Flame, Stoic Endurance (usable on self only) and Cunning Thief. The essence from the 'demon pool' cannot be used for anything else, but essence from other sources can be used to power the charms as desired. Otherwise, it is identical to personal essence.

How the victim deals with his new state depends heavily on Nature and Willpower. Many will simply fly into a beserk frenzy until put down. A rare few may have the strength of self to repress their anger and embark on a studied course of malevolence through the lands of men, and these are the truly dangerous ones. It has been theorised that if enough time is spent under the effects of this spell, the presence of the demon in the victim's flesh may become stronger, creating additional side effects and more developed powers, but this has never knowingly been tested.

If this spell is dispelled with Sapphire Countermagic, the resulting discharge of energy almost always obliterates the victim. However, it can be resisted when it is first cast by rolling Essence + Willpower against a difficulty of the sorcerer's Essence. Success still leads to the temporary incapacitation, but with no permanent effects. Every time the 'demon pool' of essence is empty, the subject of the spell can try to break free with the same roll. Success leads to the painful explusion of the demonic material and eventual recovery.

This spell doesn't work on anything without a functional heart and circulatory system.
