Disciple background

A Flaw in the Player's Guide was known as Disciple, this effectively left your character with an inept smart mouthed sidekick who your character would have to pull out of danger.

However the idea of having a student travelling with your character always had an appeal to me. What if rather than a foolish apprentice who ran into danger your apprentice was a Padwan to your Jedi master?

Cost to the Background

To access this background your character must have at least an equal number of background dots in any of the following backgrounds Allies, Influence, Command, Connections, Backing, Reputation, Mentor.

The value of a student

x- you have no disciple of note, is this by choice or you lack such respect.
1- A mere novice who is far from being your equal (probably more of a liabilty).
2- As above only a little wiser and less likely to run into danger.
3- An experienced warrior who shows potential, may even be a young Dragon-Blooded.
4- Despite the Disciple's age there is clear potential, in a few short years they will be your equal.
5- A prodigy who needs guidence so they may one-day surpass you.

The most important thing about a disciple compared to other followers, retainers or henchmen is that they will learn and progress while under your guidance. Thus the storyteller will have to keep some record of their experience thus far.

who can I train?

1 dot disciples are mere mortals, they may eventually Exalt or unlock their esence but for now they'll have to settle with not being extras.
2 dot disciples are decidedly heroic mortals, they have skill and aren't afraid to use it.
3 dot disciples have probably unlocked their essence and/or learnt thaumaturge arts in persuit of their goals.
4 dot disciples are experienced heroes in their own right, amongst their ranks are untrained Dragon-Blooded.
5 dot disciples are almost always lower level Exalts who if trained properly will go onto have epic adventures of their own.

It's advisable that the Storyteller creates any Disciple character as an NPC, the players will however chose where to spend any experience the disciple earns as though she were a second character (represents that the character is learning from you). Most importantly when chosing the disciple for the player, only a 5 dot disciple should be able to surpass their master without many years of training.
