History
Redemption's Flame was born with another name, one that he never knew. Born in the deserts of the south, he was abandoned by his parents when unable to support him when only a baby. The crying child should have been killed, if not by the blazing sun then by the many predators that roamed the desert, but he was found by a young Dragon-Blooded monk, who took pity on the child and brought him to his temple. The Dragon-Blood, Cathak Terius, managed to successfully argue with his superiors that the child should be raised by the temple, and he was named Redemption in that honour.
Redemption grew up in the quiet and contemplation of the temple, and was basically happy with his life. But time and again he saw that the Dynasty no longer followed the Immaculate Faith they claimed to support, and saw the unhappiness of his mentor Terius. He studied the Immaculate teachings with a passion, sometimes even finding flaws - although he spoke of these to no one but Terius, who often managed to correct the young man's misunderstandings. Redemption even learned the basic of the Fire Dragon Martial Arts, although he could not shape their Essence forms.
This idyllic life was not to last, however. When Redemption was 20, his temple was attacked at night by a hoard of Wyld-twisted barbarians, their greed overcoming their fear. The temple's defenders rallied to fight, but although the Dragon-Blooded masters of the temple fought bravely, they were overwhelmed. Redemption was a late arriver to the fight, and by the time he began fighting, most of the defenders were dead. As he desperately battled, swords flashing, Redemption called out in his mind to the Dragons to protect and save them. As he did, he saw Terius fall to the mace of an eight-foot tall Wyld mutant, who raised it for a final blow. He prayed with all his might for victory, as he tried to reach his friend. Something answered.
As he fought, Redemption found light and flame coiling off him, pouring from his skin like sweat. Suddenly, the patterns of the Dragon made sense, and barbarians fell before him as he charged the barbarian chief. This sudden assault was the final blow for the barbarians, who had thought their victory assured. As Redemption scythed through them, they turned and fled, and he turned his attention to the survivors of the attack, only then realizing that the power surrounding him was not of the Dragons, but of the Sun.
Terius woke to see his friend blazing gold, and drew his swords in horror, but did not attack. Only the quickest of words by Redemption saved them both from a deadly fight. Redemption explained that the Immaculate Faith had become corrupt, and that the stories of the Anathema had been spread by the Empress, slipped into the faith to preserve her power. The Solars were the natural companions of the Dragon-Blooded, companions who had been severed by the machinations of evil people. He managed to convince the few survivors, and so the Gold Immaculates were born.
Redemption, now calling himself Redemption's Flame, still lives at the monastary, but most of the new monks do not know his true nature. Terius does, as do the survivors of the attack, and they keep his secret, quietly and carefully converting newcomers to their new path - a path on which Solars and Dragon-Blooded walk as equal, in the blazing light of the Immaculate Dragons and the Unconquered Sun.
