A Comprehensive Guide to the Metroverse

Setting

Welcome to Earth-Creation

  • It is Earth, thought it is also Creation. There are Essence, Sorcery, Exalts, and Manses, Demense, spirits, and demons.

Aeons ago at the end of the Primordial War, Malfeas was turned inside-out and his associates imprisoned in his body. Gaia took the shape of Creation and wrapped the Earth Dragon around him, and sealed the Hell-Realm away at the Earth’s core, constantly guarded by her Five Elemental Souls.

Malfeas

Malfeas can be reached by Charms/Sorcery, by digging deep, by leaping down volcanoes, or by traveling in a desert, or a freeway or anywhere for five days with the desire to find Cecelyne.

Yu Shan

Yu Shan, the Celestial City of Heaven, is a magical realm accessible only by Charms/Sorcery, or by the location of one of the two-hundred-and-fifty Celestial Gates. More may exist, but only 250 are official recognized by the Celestial Heirarchy.

The Underworld

The Underworld exists more as a limbo, connecting to Earth through innumerable Underworld Gates. These usually connect through graveyards or other places that the populace refers to as “haunted.” The Neverborn are not the scheming, restless, monsters as in canon. They are dead, Essence no longer flows through them; their consciousness completely destroyed. Their deaths were not without consequence—for upon their final, conscious breath—they cursed the Exalts. Also, no being (Save Gaia and Autochthon) truly understands what the death of a Primordial means. The Creation of the Underworld puts a hitch in the cycle of Reincarnation. Because the Neverborn are deprived of their active consciousness, there are no Deathlords and thus, no Abyssals.

What about Space?

What about Space? Sure, men have gone to the moon and know of the existence of the other planets (named for the Maidens! Except Pluto, but as we all know, that’s not a planet =b) This is a complex faerie trick. Space isn’t an infinite vacuum. It’s infinite chaos. Aliens exist. We call them Raksha. Such heavy equipment is needed to survive not because one will suffocate and die, but because SHAPING IS BAD. People on Earth-Creation are willing to believe this, and not write it off to science.

On the Subject of Spirits

On the subject of spirits: Diseases and infections are caused by germs, as we real people understand them and modern medicine is available. Infection is easily avoided, provided proper precautions are taken. If a character has access to hospital equipment, the difficulty of the treatment roll dramatically decreases. Magical diseases can only be cured by magical means.
Household spirits, directional war gods, elementals, etc. do exist and are as troublesome as they are in standard Creation. Most locales have a police station equipped with a thaumaturgical team trained to deal with them. Especially metropolitan or wealthy areas are lucky enough to have a DragonBlood on staff. If the precinct is especially lucky, they will have access to the services of an Immaculate Chaplain.

Notes on the World

You're Exalts, in the modern Era. There's no handwaving this at all. There are Exalts, people know about them, it's all good. Cars, highways, airplanes, tvs, microwaves, cell phones, etc. However. Daiklave and Superheavy plate? Totally ok.
It follows the history of Creation, from the Primordial War to the height of the First Age to the Usurpation to the Shogunate to the Scarlet Dynasty, though in this modern era, the Scarlet Dynasty goes by The Dragon-Blooded Monopoly and controls most of the business of the world not already controlled by the Guild. It is the storyteller's choice to keep as much of the original canon as they'd like. It is also the storyteller's choice to keep Earth's continents, or to just imagine the Threshold et al wrapped in a sphere.

Things that Go in the Metroverse

Ride

Ride: is used for most personal vehicles including Skateboards, bikes, jet skis, snowmobiles, riding animals and cars.
Exceptions: Skateboards can also be considered Athletics, and Cars can also be Sail. Depends on which the character has higher.

    • Note that this does mean that you can use Sometimes Horses Fly Approach with your vehicle.

Sail

Sail: is for larger vehicles, including Cars, Tanks, anything that flies and anything that floats from rowboats to aircraft carriers.

Athletics

Roller skates/blades, skis, ice skates, moon-shoes, pogo sticks, stilts and any other toy-like mode of transportation are covered under Athletics.

Language in the Metroverse

Like a good action movie, everyone speaks one of three languages:

Low Realm

The common tongue. It is spoken across the vast majority of the world, much like English. It is also the language most things on the internet are written in.

High Realm

The language of the Exalted (namely, the DBs), and while many people know how to read and comprehend it, mortals are regarded as “out of line” if they speak it.

Old Realm

Still the language of Magic and the arcane, reserved for the savants and scholars and those kids who took it in high school.
This means Linguistics 3 gets you all the languages in the world. Anything above that improves your Linguistic Appearance and dice pool for Linguistic social attacks.
