The Beginning of the Third Age

A sidenote to the history of the world - recorded nowhere and told to no-one - is that not all the Celestial shards were bound into the Orichalcum Prison. Three Exalts; a Night Caste, a Changing Moon and a Chosen of Secrets stayed behind to guard the world. All three had their bodies altered through various geomantic and magitech principles to keep them from being able to die of natural causes.

The Night Caste

The Night Caste disappeared to history and nobody knows of her whereabouts.

The Changing Moon

The Changing Moon also disappeared for a long time, but is well-known today amongst the community of Lunars (who are the only Exalts to have formed their own society - and have rejected the modern world) because she acts as their spiritual guide and teacher.

The Chosen of Secrets

The Chosen of Secrets did not disappear so deeply as the other two guardians. He stood close to the currents of history, resurfacing a number of times over the millenia. However numerous factors have played on his psyche over that time; the slight twinge of guilt over the slaughter of the Solars given their sacrifice at the beginning of the Third Age... his numerous necessary interactions with the Demon-blooded conspiracy... and the inordinate length of time itself that he has lived... and he has become corrupted.

Whether he sees the end of the world as necessary to wipe away the decaying husk of the Creation he once knew or he feels the need to make everything burn for the sins of the Sidereals or has some other motive is unknown, but he has well and truly fallen under the Yozis' sway.

Who are these characters?

These are NPC concepts to be slipped into the campaign obliquely. The Chosen of Secrets may act on behalf of the Demon-blooded conspiracy in dealing with the characters (posing as an elder Exalt who can help them), but the Changing Moon exists only as a rumour ("The Lunar monstrosities have a spiritual leader!") and the Night Caste should only pass through the campaign occasionally as an unknown figure. They should act to confuse the players and add another layer to the puzzle of what's really going on in the world.
